PSHE ‘Going for goals’
They will be revisiting multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 to
give answers with three decimal places. Find the area and perimeter
of a variety of shapes using the 4 calculation skills. Pupils will be
looking at measures and 3D shape as well as reviewing mental and
written calculations or all 4 calculations.
P.E.
A visiting speaker from the NSPCC will
be leading an assembly & a workshop
on safeguarding- ‘Speak out, stay safe’
English: This term children will have the opportunity to identify features of persuasive texts
and discuss differences between facts and opinions. They will find out how to present
opinions as if they were facts. They will also study formal and informal speech, and research
and hold a class debate. Following these experiences they will then write and edit their own
persuasive text.
Grammar Foci:
1. Use elaborated language of description, including expanded noun phrases, adjectives,
adverbials and a variety of subordinate clauses, including relative clauses.
2. Use semi-colons to mark boundary between independent clauses.

History
We will continue to learn all about The Shang
Dynasty of Ancient China. We will discover key
information about the formation of the Shang
Dynasty and the kings who ruled it. The children
will enjoy opportunities to learn all about:
everyday life; the music; cities and settlements; the
process of worship in this early civilisation; the
importance of warfare; advanced technology and
the development of writing. The children will have
the chance to interpret their research, and express
their understanding through a number of exciting
creative outcomes!

‘Is anything ever
eternal?’
Geography
Children will continue to investigate the water cycle and
coasts. They will study the water cycle and the physical
geography of coasts and coastal features. Learn about
coastal erosion and the impact of the sea on human
activity.
We will be learning to
evaluate different beliefs
about eternity and to
understand the Christian
perspective on this.

Science In Science the
children will revise the
three states of matter
and properties of
materials. Introduce the
further properties: of
solubility and thermal
conductivity. They will
also separate materials
using a range of methods
and understand that
some changes are
irreversible resulting in
the formation of new
materials.
D&T / Art Children will investigate
instruments from Chinese culture and
be able to make simple instruments
and compose a piece of instrumental
music about the final days of the
Shang Dynasty. Explore the
magnificent patterns and designs
used to decorate the homes of the
Shang Kings. They will interpret the
style of the period and illustrate their
own artefacts.
P.E. This term we will be focusing on balance
and locomotion in gymnastics. Refine tagrugby skills, tactics and understanding of rules
in readiness for competition and finally
explore dance through the musical heritage of
Chinese Shang Dynasty.
French
Computing- The children will be looking at game developers, and trying
our hand at developing our own interactive games.
Music We will listen to musical pieces from Chinese culture and use these
structures to create their own composition. We will investigate
instruments from Chinese culture and use they influence structure and
sound.
