DDC was developed by Melville Dewey in 1876 and has had 22 major revisions since
then.
It represents categories by a variety of decimals. The system combines numbers to
represent both a subject and its geographical or temporal elements. (330 for economy
+ 94 for Europe =330.94 European economy.)
DDC is used in public and school libraries throughout the world.
