The Near Future Tense

The Near Future Tense
Le futur proche, or "near future" tense, is used to talk about an event or an action that
will take place soon.
To use the futur proche, you must use the verb aller conjugated in the present + an
infinitive (a non-conjugated verb). It means “to be going to ____” (example: je vais
manger = “I am going to eat”).
futur proche = aller in the present + infinitive of a second verb
Here is the present conjugation of aller again to refresh your memory:
je vais
nous allons
tu vas
vous allez
il/elle/on va
ils/elles vont
Let’s practice le future proche in some sentences:
Qu’est-ce que tu vas nettoyer ?
“What are you going to clean?”
Je vais nettoyer la chambre et la cuisine.
“I am going to clean the bedroom and the kitchen.”
Negation
When negating a sentence, always place ne...pas (or any other negative expression of
your choice) around the conjugated verb. In the case of the futur proche, the
conjugated verb is aller.
Je ne vais pas manger au resto ce soir.
“I am not going to eat at the restaurant tonight.”
Ils ne vont jamais étudier samedi.
“They are never going to study on Saturday.”
