We’re headed back
to Quentin Road Christmas at
Bethlehem’s Tower
Lake Zurich, IL – Sunday,
December 17th, 2017
As another spotless lamb is
prepared for sacrifice, a shepherd
boy wonders aloud, “Must we
continue this practice forever?”
Meanwhile, a man leads his wife,
great with child, to an inn where
she can deliver her baby. There
is no room. As the husband and
wife go their way, the shepherd boy’s father offers
his assistance. “Wait! You can use my room.”
Thus began a series of events forever etched in
our minds as “The Christmas Story.” But this
captivating account includes significant details
tradition has overlooked . . . until now. Take a
special journey with Quentin Road this Christmas
as we unlock secrets from Christmas Past. With
a 300-voice children-and-adult choir, dramatic
lighting, and live animals (including an 8 foot
camel), we will present what really happened on
that first Christmas night long ago. With original
songs and orchestration by David Clydesdale, this
spectacular Christmas performance will be an
instant classic you will want to relive year after year.
See for yourself why thousands make this event a
part of their annual Christmas celebration. Lunch,
prior to the performance will be at the DoubleTree
by Hilton Libertyville-Mundelein. Menu: vegetable
minestrone soup, warm rolls and butter, sautéed
chicken breast with vesuvio sauce, herb roasted
potatoes, green beans, chocolate cake (gluten free
dessert will be fresh fruit), and iced tea and coffee.
Cost per member is $119 and $139 per
non-member.
Price includes motor coach transportation, tip for
driver, lunch and seating for the Quentin Road
Christmas at Bethlehem’s Tower.

French Second Empire setting. You’ll also

salon carousel in existence. You will
never forget the experience of hearing
exactly what those at the turn-of-thecentury heard from these beautifully restored
machines. Lunch is included at the Chessie’s

4th Annual Member Appreciation Event
Featuring Danville!
Danville is a musical family inspired by Peter, Paul and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel,
and The Everly Brothers. They have been entertaining audiences, young and old,
for over 35 years! Hailing from Cadott, WI, they are not new to Prime Time. Our
members enjoyed their musical talents a few years back on a Mystery Tour to
the Eau Claire area and those members have suggested we bring them in for our
Appreciation event so that our entire group might enjoy their show.
Although, they were raised 100 miles apart, Kathy in the city of St. Paul, MN and Tim on a dairy farm in rural Cadott, WI, they grew up listening
to the same music. Being inspired by the songs, it was very natural for them to sing the same type of harmonies when they began performing
together in college. As they grew musically, they also grew romantically, and were married shortly after graduation from UW-River Falls in 1981.
After singing as a duo for 15 years, children, Casey and Joe, joined the group and Danville became a quartet, backing up the vocal harmonies
with guitars, mandolin, bass, harmonica, and the occasional kazoo.
In recent years, as Casey and Joe have both grown and married, Casey with two children, and Joe living in the Twin Cities, they haven’t been able
to perform together as often as they once did. However, Danville continues to perform as often as possible, in every combination of members.
Whether playing at concert halls, coffeehouses, churches, or music festivals, they move audiences from tears to laughter with their songs
and stories about love, family, children, memories, and relationships. They call their style of music “acoustic contemporary folk.” They have
recorded six CDs: Love Like a River, Age to Age and Heart to Heart”, “A Danielson Family Christmas”, Casey and Joe’s two albums, “Casey
and Joe Live”, and “Cornerstones and Commontime,” and Tim’s solo CD “A Place I Know.”
Danville has enjoyed playing for audiences, young and old, large and small, for over 35 years, and will continue to do so as long as folks
continue to listen.
Wednesday, August 16th, 2017

Asset Titling: It’s Important to Get It Right
Written by Dan Savage,
Wealth Management
Division, SBCP
Our clients and
prospects frequently
inquire about titling
their real estate,
various accounts, and
other assets. Their
goals include avoiding probate, assisting with
the management of property, and ensuring
that family members have immediate access
to funds at death. The balance of this article
will address several important questions
regarding asset titling.
What are common forms of titling?
• Joint Tenancy – This form of titling involves
two or more owners and assumes equal
ownership while they are alive regardless of
their individual contributions to the asset;
moreover, both parties have the equal,
undivided right to control the property.
Joint tenancy creates a right of survivorship
which means ownership passes to the surviving party outside of probate and is not
controlled by the decedent’s estate plan.
• Marital Property with Rights of Survivorship – This special form of joint tenancy
can only be used by spouses. Rules affecting
use, control, and transfer upon death are
identical to those outlined above.
• Tenants-in-Common – This method also
involves multiple owners but does not create a right of survivorship. Title holders are
current owners while alive with ownership
interests proportional to the amounts they
contributed to the asset. Upon death, a title
holder’s share will pass according to his or
her estate plan.
• Transfer-on-Death (TOD) – This method
transfers an asset to a named beneficiary
upon death. The beneficiary is identified on
a form provided by an institution (bank or
securities firm) or in a beneficiary designation recorded with the register of deeds
(real estate). The beneficiary lacks ownership rights during the property owner’s
lifetime. Upon death, property is transferred outside of probate and the decedent’s
estate plan.
• Payable-on-Death (POD) – This is similar
to TOD but normally applies only to bank
accounts, including certificates of deposit.
4
• Revocable Living Trust – If you adopt
a living trust-based estate plan, your
attorney may advise you to retitle some or
all of your assets into that living trust for
administrative
purposes. Your
trust becomes
the owner of the
assets, and your
right and ability
to control them
usually continues,
because you name
yourself as trustee.
Upon your death
or disability, your
successor trustee
will assume
immediate control
over your trust
assets. Assets held in your trust will not be
subject to probate.
• Beneficiary Designations – Certain assets
such as life insurance policies, annuities,
qualified retirement plans, Wisconsin real
estate, and IRAs permit an owner to name
one or more beneficiaries who will receive
the assets upon the death of the owner.
Assets transfer directly to named beneficiaries outside of the decedent’s estate plan
and probate.
What issues need to be considered when
making titling decisions?
• Wisconsin is a marital property state.
Absent a marital property agreement, this
means that a married couple’s assets accumulated during marriage and while living
in Wisconsin are considered as owned
on a 50/50 basis…regardless of titling. A
deceased spouse may only direct the distribution of his or her one-half interest in
the couple’s assets and his or her individual
property. The other half remains with the
surviving spouse.
• Beware of TOD and POD designations.
Remember, these designations supersede
what is stated in a will or trust. Absent
coordination with the rest of your estate
plan, a TOD or POD could leave your
estate without sufficient means to pay final
expenses and taxes. They can also result
in the beneficiaries of your estate plan
receiving less than they anticipated or than
you intended.
• Think twice and then twice again…before
adding an owner to one or more of your
accounts. Doing so will likely create a
joint account with immediate ownership
and survivorship rights.
Unintended
consequences
include your
account being
subject to the
creditors of
the new owner
during your
life and upon
your death as
well as family
disharmony. If
you want help
with a given
account, consider adding that individual as
an ‘agent’ instead of as an owner.
• Several ownership forms outlined above
do not provide for alternate distributions if
that named beneficiary fails to survive you.
They also fail to provide for certain trust
protections, other distribution plans, and
planning for minors. Think of these as lost
estate planning opportunities.
What is the best way to ensure that my
assets are properly titled?
• Begin by reviewing titling and beneficiary
designations for all of your assets. This
includes your primary residence, other real
estate, bank accounts, insurance policies,
annuities, IRAs, trusts, qualified retirement
plan accounts, investment accounts, and
other assets.
• Next, review your will, durable power of
attorney for finances, and other estate planning documents such as a revocable living
trust. Make sure that the terms contained
in those documents are consistent with
your current wishes…and…harmonize
with your titling choices.
• Consult with your estate planning attorney.
When it comes to “dollars and sense”, a
second opinion can help ensure that your
assets are successfully transferred according to your wishes.

more about asset titling or estate planning,

What You Should Know About Social Security Seminar
Wednesday, July 12th, 2017
As I approach the magic
age of Social Security, I
have so many questions
and I would imagine you
do too. Never fear, SBCP
Wealth Management
team is here to answer
many common
questions about Social
Security. This seminar is
perfect for those (ages
55-70) who have not
begun receiving Social
Security Benefits.
We know deciding when
to take Social Security
is a big decision that
affects every aspect of a retirement plan.
Come find out why sometimes it might
pay to delay receiving social security.
Learn how to optimize the benefits for a
surviving spouse and perhaps having a plan
that has dual strategies of taking benefits
for both spouses. There are special rules
for divorced or widowed individuals and
there is a good chance that benefits will be
taxed and you will want to know when
and how this could happen. Please
join us on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in
our Madison Office, 455 S. Junction
Rd., Madison, WI for this worthwhile
seminar where you will learn all this and
much more!
5:30 p.m. – Appetizers and Registration

Chairman’s Message:
April has been declared “Community
Banking Month.” So what, who cares?
Well, for State Bank even though every day
is Community Banking Day, Community
Banking Month does present an
opportunity to talk about what makes State
Bank different than the other guys.
It’s a staggering fact that 11% of all banks
(604 banks over $1 Billion in Assets) hold
93% of all Bank assets amounting to over
$14 Trillion. The remaining 4,509 banks
under a $1 billion are statistically identified
as community banks. The second largest
Bank in the nation with deposits over $1.66
Trillion spent substantial marketing dollars
portraying themselves as
a Community Bank.
You may have seen
in the news recently
their actions by way
of aggressive sales
techniques have
shown that
their
interest
6
wasn’t so much for the community but
for their own bottom line and the price of
their stock. In contrast, the State Bank has
approximately $900 million in assets with 8
community offices and is supported by the
investment of about 650 shareholders who
are our customer’s neighbors and friends.
A true community bank, first and foremost
is the result of investments by local
community citizens (not institutional
investors). Another goal is to promote
commerce and lending to local businesses
(not loans out of market). And thirdly, to
serve the unique depository and investment
needs of individuals (you’re a name
not a number). The State Bank puts its
community in its mission statement and its
action plans. What started in our founding
in 1908 has only expanded in width and
breadth as State Bank has found more
and more ways to abide by its mission. So,
who cares? Hopefully, you care if you want
to start your own business; if you want
to refinance a larger home or if you’re in
a pinch and need temporary financing.
Maybe you like to hear your name when
you are executing a transaction; or want to
fund a school addition or to finance a new
fire truck. Perhaps your favorite nonprofit
has a fund raiser and you need financial
support. In these and more instances
we believe you care that your Bank is a
Community Bank.
To put a spotlight on this theme, during the
month of April, each of our nine State Bank
offices will be collecting non-perishable
items and monetary donations for our
community food banks. Anyone who
donates is eligible to enter their name into
a drawing to participate in a supermarket
sweep shopping spree to collect items for
their communities food pantry and a $50
gift card towards a local grocer. This is just
one more way that our actions demonstrate
that State Bank doesn’t just say that it is a
Community Bank – it lives and breathes
Community Banking.
Best Wishes,
Chairman, State Bank and SBCP Bancorp

Director’s Message
“Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I
wonder where the flowers is…” I have always
felt this sing-songy rhyme is kind of how life
is, we just go along from one
fleeting day/year to the
next, hopefully enjoying
everything that life has
to give us. That’s how I
feel life goes with Prime
Time. We tried to host
Alzheimer’s seminar
(cancelled due to
weather), we enjoyed
11 amazing days
in Kenya, we are
looking forward
to some day trips
Lois Boehnen – Club Director
and then a beautiful summer tour to Nova
Scotia and the list goes on. I think you get the
idea… it’s a lot of fun.
When we arrived home from Kenya, we were
blessed with Grandson # 1, a 9.1lb, 21 ½ inch
Boehnen boy named Jonathan Ambrose.
Butch and I spent six days trying to keep our
two little granddaughter’s occupied while
fighting our jet lag from Kenya, but oh what
a time we had!
This summer our bank will host our fourth
annual member appreciation concert. This
year’s entertainment is called Danville. We
attended their show a few years back on a
mystery tour in the Eau Claire, WI area and
those in attendance asked if we could bring
them down for this event. We hope you
can join us for this year’s performance on
Wednesday, August 16th.
This is the time of the year we love to hear
your ideas on what Prime Time should do
next. Please tell me or a staff member and
ask them to pass your ideas to me. We keep
all your ideas safely tucked in a file and take
all of your suggestions out when I begin
planning for the next year. Once we begin
to see repeat ideas we know it’s time to go! It
also helps us to check in to attractions we’ve
never heard of before.
If you haven’t already, we hope you’ll check
out this amazing springtime of your life by
enjoying our Prime Time activities.
