INTRODUCTION
Labidco Port Services Ltd is located in the 409 acres National Energy Company of Trinidad & Tobago Industrial Estate, La Brea, Trinidad. Historical La
Brea is located in the South Western Peninsula and on the sheltered leeward side of the Island on the Gulf of Paria which separates Trinidad and Tobago from Venezuela. La Brea has one of the two natural harbours in Trinidad and is well known for the famous Pitch (Asphalt) Lake and is the epicentre
of the Oil and Gas Service Industry of Trinidad & Tobago. The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has designated this Industrial Estate as the primary
area for the Offshore Oil & Gas Service Industry and is now home to such companies as British Petroleum Trinidad and Tobago (BPTT), Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago (PETROTRIN), ASCO Logistics, Tiger Tanks Unlimited, Bayfield Energy, Trinidad and Tobago Offshore Fabrication Company

WITH UNIVERSITY OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

On Wednesday 23 May, 2012, UTT also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with LABIDCO Port Services Ltd. This
MOU represents a partnership that will see UTT execute strategic programmes in Port skills within the community of La
Brea. LABIDCO Port Services Ltd., and its associated companies, is the largest tenant of the La Brea Industrial Development Company Industrial Estate which is owned by the National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited
(NEC) and The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC).
Managing Director of LABIDCO Port Services Ltd., Mr. Deo Gosine, stated that there was a, “huge need for training in
seamanship in Trinidad and Tobago” and that UTT’s intervention as a partner in this joint venture will be a “tremendous
resource to harness our Maritime services.” UTT’s Chairman, Mr. Curtis R. Manchoon, reiterated that this collaboration
was in direct alignment with UTT’s Mission of being, “... an entrepreneurial University designed to discover and develop
entrepreneurs...and spawn companies for wealth generation and sustainable job creation” and that persons from the La
Brea stand to benefit tremendously as a, “university always serves as a hub for development” wherever it exists. Minister Karim confirmed that “ship building, marine and maritime services is an opportunity for diversification of the economy and is a proactive approach to prepare citizens to be skilled for jobs in this industry.” He further emphasised that this
partnership is a much needed injection of training for persons in and around the La Brea area and will serve to,
“complement the academic Maritime programmes already offered at UTT’s Chaguaramas Campus.”
