What a long and busy half term we have had at Ladybrook. Here are some highlights…
Learners busy learning
Let’s go into the Woods...
Our Foundation stage children have been exploring traditional stories based in the
woods! In Nursery we had the Three Bears’ house and Baby Bear had his birthday
party last week. It was lovely to see children working together to make a cake—
balancing out the ingredients, trying hard not to lick their fingers until the end!!!
In Reception, Little Red Riding Hood came into the classroom and the children interviewed
her!!
Please check out the website for up to date photographs of some of their other learning
experiences.
Adventurers… not quite on the high seas
Year 6 returned yesterday from their sailing adventure at Debdale Sailing club.
Perfect weather for sailing and a fabulous skill-building opportunity has left the class
saying ‘Can we go again in the summer… just for fun?!!’
During the afternoon they went off to the Ladybrook Valley to test out their own
boats as part of their design technology project.
Explorers …in the wild woods
Year 1 enjoyed a trip to Lyme Park to build dens in the wooded area. As part of their Healthy
Eating topic they have had a range of visitors in class to talk about their work:
a police officer to talk about fingerprinting!, a yoga teacher and Tumble Tot
leader to talk about exercise a local doctor and our very own kitchen staff to
talk about school dinners. They later teamed up with their Enterprise partners
from last year (Year 5) to share a treat resulting from their profits: A day at
Wacky Woods in Bollington. They all came back with blackberry jam and blackberry artwork.
Safety First
Year 3 started the half term with a Road safety session in which they stepped out into
Bramhall to learn more about how to stay safe when they are out and about. This week
the class want on a local walk to find out more about the Bramhall area.
Going back in time…
Year 2 have learned about the Nevill family, as they explored Bramall Hall. They found out
about life above and below stairs during their tour of our local mansion. This is always a
worthwhile class trip.
It’s all Greek to me!
Year 5 are studying the ancient Greeks and have produced some wonderful myth in
the form of scrolls to share. They have re-created early pottery forms and decorated
them in the style of the Greeks.
Competitors
Year 1 and 2 took part in a multi-skills festival and made us proud. Each child was
awarded points and the top three from each class received gold, silver and bronze
medals in our sharing assembly. They are: Ava, Willow and William B. in Year 1 and
Olivia, Joshua, and Emelia in Year 2. Year 5 had a class netball tournament - the Ace
team won – well done! Year 3 and 4s won the Sports hall Athletics competition –
beating a number of other Stockport Schools. We may have some potential Olympians here!
There are a number of festivals coming up for the juniors before Christmas, so look out for a
letter that will be sent out soon.
The whole school has enjoyed...
The School Book fair, which followed on from a fabulous book character dressing
up day, was very well attended by parents and children. Thank you to Mrs Woosnam
for organising it and for the Year 6 pupils who managed the sales aspect of the
event. A whopping £270 worth of books for school was raised from the proceeds.
The Harvest Festival, which was a community event - very well attended by parents
and friends of Ladybrook. We have since received a lovely letter from the Hazel Grove
Foodbank to thank Ladybrook parents and children for their generous contributions of
food for needy local families.
A Spooky Disco with a whole range of ghosts, ghouls and unusual characters. A
lot of fun was had by all. Thank you to the parents who organised this event and to
parents and children who spent their money. It raised at least £600 towards our
playground improvements (a conservative estimate to be confirmed). Those children
who paid to have spooky photos taken with friends will have these sent out after the
holiday via book bags.
We look forward to seeing the children again on Tuesday 6th November.
Have a lovely half term, everyone!
