Basic food safety course
Course content
Payment options
Safe food production is the responsibility of all food
handlers. In the food service industry food poisoning is
on the increase, as is competition for business and the
potential for legal action to occur should you get it wrong.
The course content is detailed below. A written
examination is held at the end of the day.

It is vitally important that food is produced hygienically.
• Grading scheme
The basic food safety course is designed to provide
all food handlers in the food service industry with an
overview on the principles related to safe food.
• Opening a new food business
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
• u
nderstand the principles and practices related to
the service and handling of safe food
• identify those responsible for maintaining food
safety standards
• recognise problem foods and how to handle them
• identify the principles and practices related to
food safety
• d emonstrate an understanding of correct cleaning
methods using appropriate cleaning material
• d emonstrate an understanding of the importance of
high standards of personal hygiene.

• this course is only for people 16 years of age and over
• the course runs from 9.30am to 4pm
• only morning tea is provided
• course dates are available on application
• the cost is $169 per person
