Pack Up Less is more! There are not capabilities on campus to store things or to move things in early (due to security and logistical reasons), but you can always purchase/bring/send more things later! Plus, spending a few days on campus can give you a better idea of what your day-to -day lifestyle will look like and give you a better idea of what items you need. Move-In Day Tips Coordinate with your roommate! There may be some items that could be shared in a space, such as a TV, mini-fridge, microwave, etc. Be sure to communicate with your roommate ahead of time regarding any items that you would be willing and able to share. Check-in at your assigned Residence Hall during the check-in time listed in the Welcome Week Schedule. Students will check-in in person with a form of ID (such as a Student ID Card or a Driver’s License). Staff will be located at a central location in each building ready to welcome you and provide you with your key(s) and further instructions. Tip: Since this step must be completed by the student directly, family and friends can begin by getting directed to a drop-off zone. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Moving in can be a strenuous activity, and Alabama is quite hot during August, so wear something that will keep you cool and comfy. Bring a handcart and a friend (or two)! Planning ahead for moving heavy items and many items very quickly can make the experience more enjoyable… especially if you live upstairs. A cart or a dolly can make a big difference in your move-in day experience. Move everything in before unpacking your room. Some of our campus community will be available to help direct traffic so that everyone can have some time closer to the entrances, so moving in quickly will help give other students an opportunity to do the same. We will also have members of the SHC community nearby to help you move items in quickly, so that everyone can have a great move-in day. Drink water! During the summertime heat, it is crucial to everyone’s health to stay hydrated and to take breaks from the heat periodically. Things To Bring!
