The list was topped with the very first $2 million winner from the $2,000,000 Mega Cash game. “The day began like every other,” said Robert Hupta, “with a coffee and a couple of scratch off tickets.” But instead of buying his favorite Spectacular Family of games ticket, he chose the $2,000,000 Mega Cash game. After all, he had won $1000 playing the game just the week before. That decision earned him a trip to the Clover room at Lottery headquarters to claim his $2,000,000 prize with a $1.375 million cash value. Robert’s lucky retailer is Shoprite, 400 East Evesham Rd., Cherry Hill in Camden County. The store received a $30,000 selling bonus. Another lucky player this month was Jonathan. This college student bought the $3 Win for Life ticket just in time because that game ended on May 5. The ticket was purchased just hours before they were removed from the store shelves in preparation for the game end. Jonathan is working hard to earn a college degree. The Win for Life top-tier prize win will assist him in funding his education goals. He chose the cash option for the ticket. Jonathan said he will also be shopping for a house for his family. His lucky retailer is A&A Mini Market, 133 Montgomery St., Bloomfield in Essex County. -MORE1 In April, there were winners across the instant games brand categories. The top jackpot amount won was from the “$2,000,000 Mega Cash” game with the $2,000,000 prize. The X family of games had nine top winners including one $200,000 and four $20,000 “20X Cash” wins and four $10,000 “10x Cash” wins. In total, there were 39 instant games winners this month. Each time a player wins, so does the ticket-selling retailer. Retailers earn a 2.5 percent bonus on each top-tier prize-winning instant ticket they sell, based on the jackpot amount, with a $30,000 maximum. In addition, when a retailer cashes a winning instant game or online game ticket (valued at $599 or below), regardless of whether they sold it, they receive a 1.25 percent cashing commission. This is in addition to the 5 percent commission on all the lottery tickets they sell. Thus far in Fiscal Year 2014, retailers earned more than $15.4 million in commissions from selling, cashing and incentive bonuses from instant and draw based Lottery games. New Jersey residents benefit from Lottery funds generated by ticket sales. Lottery revenue supports educational programs, grants and institutions across the State. Since its inception in 1970, the New Jersey Lottery (NJLottery.net) has contributed more than $22 billion to the State in support of education and institutions. As of April 30, the Lottery has contributed nearly $758 million in support of its beneficiaries during Fiscal Year 2014. Among its beneficiaries are: veterans homes, community and other colleges and universities, school nutrition programs, homes for the developmentally disabled, psychiatric hospitals, higher education scholarship programs and the Marie Katzenbach School for the Deaf.
