Samantha Stinnett, is an amazing student. Samantha has earned an A or an A+ in every class she has taken. She, enjoys writing and really enjoys grammar as well. When she graduates in May she plans on attending IUPUI or Indiana University. She is not quite sure of her major at this time. Samantha has developed a tremendous work ethic, something she admires in her Mom. Samantha has been impressed by how hard her Mom works, and how she has been able to balance all the different things she does in her life. Mr. Burdsall had the following to say about Samantha “In the classroom, Samantha is one of the hardest working students I have had the pleasure of teaching. She is committed to her studies and spends a great deal of time preparing for her courses. She is the top student in my ACP biology class and she has spent a tremendous amount of time outside of school preparing for the rigor of this college class. She has taken all of the tough science classes and has excelled in all her classes.” What many people don’t know about Samantha is that she is a budding photographer. Ever since she took photography, it is hard for her to stop taking pictures. She enjoys taking pictures of abandoned architecture. Samantha is a talented photographer and she would like to use this talent to become a free -lance photographer. We have put together a small slide show of her work to share with you her hidden skills. Civil War photographer Matthew Brady stated, that “I had to go. A spirit in my feet said go. So I went.” Samantha, our hope is that you follow your passion and let your feet take you on a marvelous adventure as you go. Congratulations, Samantha on becoming Student of the Month! Student of the Month is an award based on a person’s good citizenship, character, service, honesty, and all around good behavior. There is no academic or athletic excellence required to be nominated for this award. Mr. Mullin is the author of the Ashfall trilogy, which has won several young adult awards and honors. The trilogy is available for checkout in the high school library. Mullin, who moved to Danville in May, holds a black belt in Songahm Taekwondo speaks frequently to high school students on how practice and persistence in learning Taekwondo is similar to the writing process. We are honored to have this opportunity to host what Mike calls some "funshops" for our students. Details TBA. MEET THE CANDIDATES NIGHT DCHS senior government classes will be hosting the 2016 primary, "Meet the Candidates Night" on Wednesday, April 13th in the high school auditorium. Candidates for local, county, state and federal offices will be invited. The format will be a short 3-5 minutes speech by each candidate to explain their political platforms and agendas. The event will start at 6 pm. There will be plenty of opportunity for the public to mingle with the candidates before and after the event. A short intermission break will also be included in the program to allow the public to speak directly with the candidates. For further information please contact Mike Neilson, Government Teacher, [email protected] or call the high school at 745-6431 ext. 222 Reminder of some security changes here at the high school: Parents, as always, you are welcome in our school at any time. When you arrive at Door 1, please make sure to use the buzzer and to make yourself visible for the camera. Also, please be ready to identify yourself and the nature of your visit. When you come into the main office, you will be asked to show identification. If you have an appointment, we will collect your identification and provide you a visitor’s badge. When you return to the office to return your visitor's badge, your identification will be returned to you. If you arrive at school during a passing period, you will not be admitted into the building until the passing period is finished. We realize that this may be an inconvenience, but it is one that we feel is necessary in helping to ensure the safety of our students. Students, we ask that you too identify yourself when you are using the buzzer at door 1. If you attend math tutoring or club meetings before school, or if you need to access the LMC before school, you will be required to stay at your destination until the 8:25 bell. If you attend Ben Davis, are enrolled in Peer Tutoring, or do not have a first period class, you will need to sign in at the office when you arrive at school. You will also need to remain in the office until the bell rings.
