Kempsville Middle School Track 2017 Team Purpose--For the track athlete to develop…. Physically - learning track skills, improving physical conditioning, practicing good health habits and avoiding injuries Psychologically - learning to control emotions and developing feelings of self-worth Socially - learning cooperation in a competitive context and appropriate standards of behavior Eligibility Must be 15 years of age or younger as of August 1st of the current school year Have a current and complete physical on file with the student activities office Hold a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 from the first semester Passed 5 classes for the first semester Events 100 Meter (Straight part of the track. 1/4 of a lap) 200 Meter (1/2 of a lap around the track) 400 Meter (1 Lap around the track) 800 Meter (2 Laps around the track) 1600 Meter / Mile (4 Laps around the track) Long Jump (run and jump as far as you can) 4 X 100 Meter Relay (4 team members each run 1/4 of a lap around the track while handing off a baton to each other relay race style) 4 X 400 Meter Relay (4 team members each run 1 full lap around the track while handing off a baton to each other relay race style) Tryouts Begin March 27st after school. We will meet in the LARGE GYM--During tryout week until April 6th the activity buses leave at 6:00 pm SHARP!!! If you are picked up by a parent then you need to have your ride here by 5:45 or YOU WILL HAVE TO RIDE THE BUS HOME. During the regular season the activity buses depart promptly at 5:45. If you ride is not here then you WILL get on the activity bus-no exceptions. March 27th (MONDAY) Boys tryout only March 28th (TUESDAY) Girls tryout only March 29th (WEDNESDAY) Boys callbacks March 30th (THURSDAY) Girls callbacks March 31th (FRIDAY) Final Cuts- All girls and boys April 3rd (MONDAY) Parent meeting after practice- 6:00 April 4 th-6th Track Practice
