The machine is an unwinding/rewinding system for plastic coated metal
thread. The nearby metal thread coating line produces big thread coils
(about 1000 mm diameter, 1000 mm height, 20 tons weight) that must
then be unwinded and rewinded on smaller reels for further processing.
Machine is driven by 3 ADV200 drives controlled by a Vedo 65 Gefran PLC
via Canopen fieldbus interface:
- the unwinding stage, that drives the source coil, receives via Can a line
speed reference calculated by overhead control; this reference is corrected
by PID application on the drive, using the dancer linear potentiometer.
Speed reference calculation by PLC is needed because there is no real
speed reference on the machine (haul drive or line encoder) bound to
metal thread speed, then variation of diameter must be taken in count.
- the winding stage, that drives the rewinded reel, also receives via Can a
line speed reference calculated to manage diameter variation.
- the metal thread guide positioner, that drives the thread on rewinding
reel cursor by endless screw, is controlled by Positioner application on the
drive; sequential positioner function between 2 target positions is used in
order to minimize the time to reverse direction at reel edges.
Furthermore, these 2 position presets are updated by Can PDO in order to
manage stroke variation due to geometrical shape of reel (conical);
positioning speed must also be updated to follow winder speed variation
(hereunder attached a sample calculation to update positions and speed;
since metal thread diameter is very small, real application calculation are
subject to change by empiric coefficients).
This machine can reach a line speed of 12 meters per second (720 meters
per minute).
