Happy Easter!
Friends, we had a beautiful day for our Resurrection celebrations and each worship experience was filled with the Holy
Spirit and joy and the gift of hope that our Risen Lord shares with us through his victory over sin and death. It was a pretty
amazing Holy Week and Easter. If you missed, you missed out!
We are living in the Easter season now and now is a great time to ground ourselves in the fervent hope and grace Jesus
offers to his followers. I pray that you are continuing the spiritual disciplines that you tried during Lent, and that they
have become a part of your regular spiritual rhythm of life.
As we look toward spring and all the promise it holds, I ask that you join me in prayer. Next month, our West Ohio
Conference will send a delegation of elected leaders, both clergy and laity from our Conference, to Portland, Oregon for
the General Conference of the United Methodist Church. General Conference is the top policy-making body of The United
Methodist Church which meets once every four years. The conference can revise church law, as well as adopt resolutions
on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues. It also approves plans and budgets for church-wide
programs. This Conference is gathering May 10-20 and will be deciding some pretty big issues for our denomination.
I know that we all come to the table with our own ideas, political and theological stances. One of the beautiful things
about the United Methodist Church is that our “tent” is big enough to hold folks all over the theological and political
spectrum—usually with decorum, unity, and grace. Unfortunately, Church politics and theological posturing is beginning
to mimic some of the stuff we see on TV and in the news with the election cycle bearing down on us. I am asking you to
simply pray with me for our delegates, and for all the delegations, to allow the Holy Spirit to move among them—filling
their hearts, directing their conversations, guiding their debates, and keeping all the people focused on Christ and his
Church.
Our denomination will be in the news. There will probably be protests and demonstrations. The media will sensationalize
the debates and make the gathering a circus. There is talk of a split, of churches leaving, of pastors quitting, of people
losing faith… It is an anxious time for many folks and there is a lot at stake. You can read about the issues and proposals
through the West Ohio website (www.westohioumc.org) or through the general United Methodist website
(www.umc.org). There is usually live streaming of sessions as well if you want to totally geek out and be a Metho-nerd like
me!  Maybe we should have a GC watching party?
What the Conference decides will then come back to every Annual Conference to be ratified before it becomes Church
law. I invite you to join me in prayer over this endeavor as we lead up to General Conference and as it is in session. You
and I know all we have a ton of Kingdom work to do in our little corner of the world here in beautiful Pataskala, and that
sometimes the big Church stuff seems so distant, but decisions made will impact how we do ministry and how we fulfill
our mission to make disciples of Jesus for the transformation of our community and the world.
So, please join me in prayer—not only for General Conference, but for how we will translate those actions into ministry
here in our community and in our local church. Let us pray that the power of the Resurrected Jesus will fill the Church with
the hope and joy and Good News that we know because of Easter. Let it be so…
Your hopeful and joyful partner in mission,
Pastor Angie 

The Trustee Report by Christine Hatton
Greetings from Your Trustee Team!
We are ever so grateful for everyone who came out on March 5th and again on March 19th to ready our church for our great Easter
celebration! Thank you sooooo much! We were able to complete almost every task. We still need to remove a bit of wax from the pew
cushions in the northwest section of the sanctuary. We also want to “Magic Erase” scuffs and marks on walls and woodwork in the
educational/office wing and in fellowship hall. If anyone has an hour or two to continue working on these tasks, please contact Chris
Hatton @ 937-572-9944 and she will get you what you need, and thank you in advance!
Spring is here and it is time again to collect your generous donations for flowers to be planted around our grand old church. There is a
pastel colored collection box designated for summer flower donations sitting on the window ledge leading into the educational/office
wing. Again, thank you so much church family!
Your Trustee Team hopes to begin these projects in April with completion before the Street Fair:
1) We will begin the process of replacing the exterior ramp, stairs and stoop on the south side of the church. First the old ramp and
stairs will be removed, repair work to the foundation will be completed and the ramp and stairs will be replaced. We have an
estimated cost for this work at $12,500 (not inclusive of foundation repair.)
2) We will be replacing the bath tub and its surround in the hall bath at the parsonage at an estimated cost of $6,500.
3) We will be working with Centennial Restoration to complete the foundation work that was begun in 2013. Repair of the front
wooden doors; repair of the crumbling sandstone behind the wainscoating in the bell tower entrance and reconfiguring the roof
over the stairwell leading into the old church basement. We will be meeting with Centennial Restoration folks at our April 11th
meeting when we will receive an estimate of costs for these projects.
4) We will be doing some necessary landscaping at the parsonage.
5) We have contracted with Buckeye Asphalt to do some needed asphalt repair.
If you would like to assist with any/all of these projects, and/or you have questions, concerns or suggestions for your Trustee Team
please do not hesitate to contact Chris Hatton, Gary Lott, Charlie Parsons, Don Lewis, Rob Schott, Jason Sherer and/or Lynn Meadows
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH !!!
Choir Notes
Hope You had a HAPPY EASTER! Once again, I am so proud of our Chancel Choir for presenting a wonderful Easter Cantata. They never
cease to amaze me with their talent and dedication to the choir, the church, and most importantly, our Lord and Risen Savior! A special
thank you to Susan Arnold, Susan Ashcraft, Shirley Hill, and Tammy Hoovler for helping direct, arrange, and support while preparing this
cantata. To the choir and soloists, kudos for all of your time and commitment! Also, even with all of our sound dilemmas, Dennis Beckman
and Mike Cox were able to engineer the sound to perfection – we appreciate what you do for us. And what can we say about Shaun?
WOW! What a fabulous job presenting back to the Lord the talents he has been given. Thank you Shaun! To Pastor Angie, thank you for
allowing us to share in this special Easter Service. Your way with words tied the cantata and the message to a T! And finally, all praise and
honor to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, who paid the ultimate price!
Did you enjoy the cantata? Do you think this would be something you would like to participate in next year? Well, there is no time like the
present! Choir meets every Wednesday at 7:30pm in the sanctuary. As the song goes “All God's creatures got a place in the choir. Some
sing low and some sing higher, Some sing out loud on a telephone wire, Some just clap their hands, or paws, or anything they've got now.”
Get your paws to choir! We’d love to have you!

Kids Eat Free
Kids Eat Free planning and organizing
is underway! As of press time, Pastor
Angie had already begun the speaker
tour of area businesses and service
organizations to recruit people power
and financial support. Please be
prayerful about how you will support
this critical mission of our church this
summer. We will kick off the Kids Eat
Free season with a special
commissioning of volunteers on June
5th during both worship services. Ways
to connect, plug in, and serve are
bountiful! Here are just a few ideas:
Cooking
Cleaning
Shopping
Serving
Grill masters
Food prep
Readers
Crowd Control
Party-planner
Organizers
Recruiters
Decorators
KEF is our signature mission in the
community and is a vital ministry in
our community. It will run June 6—
August 12. So for those 10 weeks, we
will need all hands on deck in lots of
ways. Please be praying about how
you will be involved. Remember, we
may be the only gospel some of these
kids (and their grown-ups) encounter.
More details to come, but in the
meantime, please be covering this
ministry with your prayers!
The United Methodist Men enjoyed their monthly breakfast and fellowship on Palm
Sunday. In the business portion of the meeting, it was discussed and decided to honor
our military by providing our troops a case devotional books entitled, Strength for
Service. The National United Methodist Men are taking this up as a service mission and
encouraging congregational groups to do the same. These devotional books will be
distributed to first responders and military members in our communities serving locally
and overseas. We will make a donation of $300 which will provide a case of 50 books.
We are inviting all members who would like to participate in our effort to make a
donation to the United Methodist Men of Pataskala prior to May 1st. Please indicate
that the donation is for Strength for Service books. Thanks, Zach DeHart, Chairperson,
UMM.
WE THINK
CHURCH CAN HAPPEN
ANYWHERE.
Church doesn't just happen when we're sitting in the pew.
Church happens when we reach out to those who are
hungry, sick, or forgotten. When we work together to end
disease and relieve suffering, when we stand together for
justice and inclusion, and when we open our hearts to
those who are struggling, that's putting beliefs into action.
That's what it means to RETHINK CHURCH.
THE CONCEPT OF
RETHINKING CHURCH
ISN'T NEW.
It's rooted in our Wesleyan heritage.
It's defined by our social principles.
It's part of what makes United Methodists unique.
To find out more about the “rethink church” movement, talk with Pastor Angie
or join us for an informal chat session, on Sunday, April 10 at 4pm in Beeson
Fellowship Hall. We are going to be holding these chats on a monthly basis.
Watch your newsletters, the website, our Facebook page, and the worship
bulletins for more information!

Youth News Youth Room Re-Vamp
Our teens gathered and started repainting the Youth Room in the lower level
of the church last month. We’ll be plugging away and reclaiming that space as
the youth zone in the coming months. Thank you for the generous donations
of a new (to us) flat screen TV and some newer shelving. The room is shaping
up nicely.
Mission Trip Planning Underway
We are currently trying to secure some dates for a multi-generational mission trip to the Midwest
Distribution Center this summer so we can see first-hand how our mission dollars toward flood
buckets and One-Great Hour of Sharing are used. Interested? Make sure you talk to Pastor Angie
about how you can be involved. More details are forthcoming!
Christian Camping
Save the Dates!
Thinking about going to camp this summer? Considering sending your kids (or grandkids) to
Christian Camp? Wondering about how it will be? Costs? Food? Cabins? We will be hosting
TWO Camp Info sessions to answer your questions about all things Camp! We will host a
week night info session on April 21st at 6pm and a Sunday afternoon session on May 1st at
4pm. We will look at a typical day of camp, what to wear, what to bring, and some of the fun
activities… Just to name a few things to get you thinking about camp! Family Camp is
scheduled for July 22-24th at Camp Otterbein. This is a great introduction to summer camp—
and it’s for your whole family! Also, we are hoping to take a group of church folks down to see
Camp Otterbein—the closest West Ohio Conference camp—for a sneak peek of summer. The
One Day Adventures are in June. We’ll be talking about camp a lot this month—so listen up
and watch your bulletins for more details. Also—we now have a camp bulletin board (right
next to the library) where we hope to keep you updated regularly.
Scouting
Did you know?
Did you know that our church has been the charter holding organization for the Pataskala Boy Scout troop for
many years? Since they have their own cabin, we haven’t seen much of them lately, but that is about to
change! We are strengthening our ties with our troop—and creating new connections with the Girl Scouts as
well. We will be hosting scouting gatherings on Thursday afternoons and evenings, some parent meetings on
Mondays, and the occasional special troop events. Watch your bulletins and future newsletters for the exciting
scouting news!
Flower Sale
Our troop will be selling a variety of hanging baskets and flats at its annual Mothers' Day weekend sale at the
Nutcracker restaurant. The sale begins Friday, May 6 at noon, and runs through Saturday evening. This event
is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the troop and helps scouts raise funds to attend camps and
other activities. This would be a great way to get your flowers this spring AND support our scouts!

A Special Thank You
To the Faith, Hope and Love Prayer Quilt Ministry
On behalf of my husband, Gary, and myself, we want to
thank you for the beautiful prayer quilt. Your mission has
been such a blessing to so many. My mother and sister
were quilters, so I understand the tremendous talent,
patience, perseverance, and love that goes into every
one of your creations. We also want to thank those
members who tied a prayer into every knot. The prayers
of the many are what give us comfort and hope in the
enduring love of Jesus Christ. Your Faith, Hope and Love
are much appreciated.
Prayerfully,
Cheryl Marks

We draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are,
but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.

Answer: C (See Esther 2:7.)
I have read in Plato and Cicero sayings that are wise and very
beautiful; but I have never read in either of them: Come unto me
all ye that labor and are heavy laden.
—St. Augustine

A Shepherd's Role
While traveling in Iran, writer Eric Bishop asked a villager about an earthen enclosure topped with dry thorns. The
man said sheep stayed in the round space at night for safety. “What are the thorns for?” Bishop asked. “If a wolf tries
to break in and attack the sheep,” the man replied, “he’ll knock against the thorns, and they’ll make a noise, and the
shepherd will wake up and drive off the wolf.” Pointing out the enclosure’s doorless entrance, Bishop asked why a
wolf wouldn’t just enter there. Because, replied the villager, “that’s where the shepherd sleeps; the shepherd is the
door.” Suddenly Bishop understood why in John 10 Jesus calls himself first the door, or gate, for the sheep and then
the Good Shepherd. Because Jesus is the shepherd, he’s also the door that keeps us, his sheep, safe within his care.
