NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 31st January, 2017
No. MCI-18(1)/2016-Med./165623.—In exercise of powers conferred by Section 33 of the Indian Medical
Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956), the Medical Council of India with the previous sanction of the Central Government
hereby makes the following regulations to further amend the “Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000”
namely:1. (i)

These regulations may be called the “Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2016.”.
They shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
In the “Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000”, the following additions / modifications / deletions /
substitutions, shall be as indicated therein:-

In Clause 12(1) under the heading “Number of Postgraduate Students to be admitted”, the following shall be
added :Provided that in Public funded Government Medical Colleges the teacher:student ratio shall be 1:3
for Professor and 1:2 for Associate Professor if the Associate Professor is a unit head, in all clinical
subjects.

In Clause 12(2) under the heading “Number of Postgraduate Students to be admitted”, the following shall be
added :Provided that in Public funded Government Medical Colleges the teacher:student ratio shall be 1:3
for Professor and 1:2 for Associate Professor if the Associate Professor is a unit head, in all clinical
subjects.
