School!for!Rudolf!Steiner!Education! Newsletter!•!Term!1!2017!•!Week!06! ! COMMUNICATION Communication Procedure ~ Fast Track Communication in a school is a key element to what a school is all about. Learning is largely dependent on clear communication, and even the flow of dayto-day operation of the school is dependent on clear and effective communication. It is like the nerve senses system of the organization, sometimes like an electric storm and other times, almost asleep. Dealing with queries, questions, complaints and grievances. Poor communication is always blamed as the breakdown of ‘knowing what is required.’ However, responsibility in knowing is also equally as important. For the first port of call for questions… A recent review revealed that possibly as few as 30% of parents read the newsletter regularly and at times less than 50% will attend their class meetings. Therefore: • • • • • • We are currently reviewing how to most effectively run the newsletter, or website page, with events and important dates to remember. We are updating, reviewing and improving Policies and Procedures. We are uploading more Policies and Procedures onto our website. We are simplifying processes. Novalis College this term has been focused on “Improving Communications” as Teacher Performance Development. Planning is in place for a General Parent Meeting for next term. Following is a procedure that we have simplified. ! At Lorien Novalis School the relationship between the parents and teachers is of the utmost importance. It is essential for the wellbeing of all students, and for the learning processes to happen effectively the teacher-parent rapport and communication is very important. • • • • • about class events regarding timetable and curriculum any class related matters student behaviour and related issues and everything directly concerning your child … please approach your child’s teacher/ guardian. If a satisfactory solution or answer was not achieved, then direct your enquiry to the Faculty Coordinator: Early Childhood Vivien Sievers Primary School Vivien Sievers High School Leanne Clarke For greater school issues such as Steiner Education, school development, wider curricular questions etc, then you may wish to speak directly to the Faculty Coordinators or Norman Sievers, Head of School. For financial questions or enquires, please contact Alison Sonter at the front desk and she will direct the enquiry to the most appropriate person. For grievances or complaints that you feel haven’t been or cannot be dealt with effectively through the above channels, then these issues need to be directed to the Head of School. The resolution of these issues may then be passed on to the College of Teachers. It is very important that good channels of communication are maintained with open and honest dialogue. This cannot be achieved by the school staff alone. Parents and staff need to work effectively together for a positive outcome for the children. Final resolution of issues that cannot be resolved through these regular processes will be handed to the Lorien Novalis School Ombudsman Committee. ! Thank you.
