FROM THE ACTING ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
At Maria Regina we follow our school rules in all areas and at all times.
Our first school rule is to Respect Yourself. We have four expectations which help us follow this
rule. They are:

Be a good listener

Be in the right place at the right time

Care for your appearance

Stop, Think, Do

PBL
EXPECTATION
OF THE
WEEK:
At our PBL assembly this week Year 1 performed role plays to show us how to be in the right place
at the right time.
Rugby League Reads
This week, Year 4 were lucky enough to have Manly Sea
Eagles come and read with us.
We read the “Rugby League Reads” magazine with Jayden
Hodges and Uiti Baker.
Our group read about the Canberra Raiders because Uiti
used to play for them. The story was about cheerleading
practice. It was a “procedure” that taught us how to do a
cheer. Uiti was very funny and confident – he joined in
when we showed the class our moves!
Jayden’s group read about the Manly Sea Eagles. Our text
was an “exposition” about Fitness and how and why you
should get healthy. We got to ask Jayden lots of questions
about reading (his favourite childhood book was “Charlie and
the Chocolate Factory”) and lots of other things.
For the next three weeks Jayden will bring another player to
read with us. Go Sea Eagles!

HOLIDAYS
FROM THE REC
Bishop Peter Comensoli’s Visit to Pittwater
Parish
Last Sunday night, our Pittwater Parish had the
opportunity to welcome Bishop Peter with a very joyful
Mass and a sausage sizzle. He is an ardent Manly
supporter so should feel right at home on the northern
beaches.
Maria Regina was well represented with several
families, staff, and Maya and Cooper reading the
prayers of the faithful on our behalf.
Lent
Lent is a time for reflection and spiritual renewal, a time to examine our relationships with God and
with others. At our Ash Wednesday Mass, Fr George asked us to do four things during Lent: prayer,
fasting, almsgiving and penance. He said, “Your parents and teachers will tell you about fasting,” and it made me scramble
to check the “rules”. This website has a simple “illustrated” summary of the rules if your family is interested in finding out
more: http://www.focus.org/blog/posts/an-illustrated-guide-to.html
Ms Christine Dunk
My searching also revealed that Lent has come into the 21st Century and so I thought I would share with you a few “apps”
that I’ve found – perhaps your family might like to download them this Lent. Let me know if you find others.
On Wednesday, every family was given a Project Compassion Box. Project Compassion 2015 focuses on Food for
Life. It throws a spotlight on global food issues and how Caritas Australia is empowering the world’s poorest people
to establish sustainable food sources for life. This is a great way to undertake “almsgiving” during Lent. The app
has a “Lenten Calendar” with information and suggestions for each day.
Lectio Divina – Lent. (Lectio Divina is a way of studying the Scriptures). In the past there use to be booklets in our
churches each Lent – but now it’s all available on your mobile device for you to use any time. With this app you
are guided through a study of the scriptures for each Sunday in Lent, with commentaries and questions to get you
thinking about how these scriptures apply to us. This would be a great way to undertake “prayer” during Lent.

Congratulations to Green colour house on winning this year’s school swimming carnival. It was a great team effort, well led by their
