Messages from the Headteacher
Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome back to a new term and a new year at Cuddington Croft. I hope that you all had a
relaxing break and are ready to begin another exciting term. This term is very short and so we have
been encouraging the children to hit the ground running so that we can get as much as possible
done in the short space of time.
Over the Christmas break Mrs Bryant had a baby girl, Polly; both are doing very well. To cover Mrs
Bryant’s maternity leave we welcome Miss Yates to Cuddington. She has settled in very well despite
the fact that she is a native Australian and she is finding the temperature differential a shock to her
system.
Also we welcome to Nursery, Mrs Smith working on a Thursday and Friday and Mrs Williams
working mornings.
15 January 2016
Please can we remind all parents that hair longer than shoulder length
should be fully tied back for boys and girls to prevent the spread of
head lice. Also all hair accessories should be red in line with the
uniform policy.
To ease congestion at the end of the day, the gate leading to the EYFS
area by the school office is now open for parents to pick up from
Nursery and Reception. We would like to thank all the EYFS parents
for their cooperation and we hope other parents have noticed the
improvement. All parents should leave promptly at 3.30 pm as the
gates are locked. We ask that siblings or EYFS children do not play
with or on the equipment, as these are learning resources and are
easily broken.
Attendance
All requests for leave of absence must be discussed in advance with Mrs
Cunningham, our Deputy. An appointment can be made with her via the front
office.
Our attendance policy can be found on the school website, holidays or any
other time taken off during term time will not be authorised. The Local
Authority may issue a Fixed Penalty Notice to the parents of children who
have unauthorised absence.

drawing carefully, and
becoming confident with
making marks to write.
Some of us can even write
with letters, and use some
sounds in the correct
places. This week we had
to draw and label some of
the things you can find in
The Arctic......snow, ice
blocks, and polar bears.
All the children did an
amazing job but this
week's Golden Writers are
Swara Mahesh, Tristan
Dix, Matthew Morris,
Rosanna Nunes, Freya
Ince-Holland, and Dylan
Gale.
News from the classroom:
This week Year 6 have been learning about why the Ancient Egyptians mummified their dead. They believed
that when people died they went on to the afterlife. In order for their soul to find their body again they
mummified their dead to preserve the bodies. We learnt about this process and then thought we would give it
a go ourselves!
We have started the process of mummifying fish. We were given one fish per table and asked to take out all of
the organs! The Egyptians took the brain out through the nose but this wasn't possible for us, After cleaning
the fish, we stuffed it with salt and rosemary (to mask some of the smell) and then sealed it in a container.
We now need to leave them for 20 days before we can start the next stage!
In Dahl, we have been exploring the story 'The North Wind and the Sun'. To help us remember the story, we
used drama to retell the main events.
In Hargreaves class we have been learning about Australia and Scotland in our Topic 'Posting and
Places'. We have also been learning about writing letters and creating mind maps about what a
good letter needs. On Wednesday, we learnt about a special type of art from Australia called 'Dot
Paintings'. Dot paintings are traditional pieces of art created by Aboriginal People in Australia.
Here are some photos of us doing our own dot paintings of a kangaroo.
The mystery of Banksy continued in Kinney class this week, from learning about his style of art, his secret
identity and looking at the features of other biographies we were able to write our own version of Banksy's
biography on Thursday. During art, we began our Banksy influenced artwork by designing our own stencils
and painting the background for our final piece. In science we learnt about the different parts of a plant, their
jobs and the differences between flowering and non-flowering plants. Kinney class have had a fantastic week,
well done!
Miss McAnallen's maths set have embraced the challenges set, which included learning not one but two
subtraction techniques. I have really been impressed with their dedication and hardworking attitude, keep it
up!
Mr Miller's maths group has been looking at place value to 2 decimal places. We did some athletics outside
and timed ourselves to the nearest hundredth of a second. RIO 2016 here we come!
