A LETTER FROM LEADERSHIP…
Greetings,
So far, 2010 has been full of blessings, with surely more to come. Our main focus over the past 12 months has been to
strengthen our programs. We…
• Expanded our church visits to promote diversity in demographics as well as worship style, and foster the spiritual
component of our program.
• Developed Teen Adventures Program (TAPS), which began with girls from St. Charles and House of Love and evolved
into a program for Youth Center teens.
• Refined our Internship Program, providing a paid job experience for 16–19 year olds.
• Formed the Community Advisory Board to gather feedback from the community we are serving.
• Increased our collaboration with Community Partners.
As we embark on this new year, we move forward with a profound sense of resolve. Our goals are clear — we will increase
the number of youth we are able to serve and improve the quality of service with which we do it. Reading aptitude is at
the forefront of our strengthened focus as well as evolving and expanding our programming to accommodate the growing
number of teens. In a world full of negative influences on our children, we remain committed to equipping our youth with
the skills to make life-affirming choices.
If you strip away programs, facilities, and committees, our core is determined by only two elements — relationships and
service. These two are inextricably woven together in Him, as He commands us to serve our community by loving one
another. This challenge we have humbly accepted will continue to define our journey forward as we remember that in
Him, all things are possible.
I sincerely thank all who have supported our journey to this point and all who choose to journey forward with us — it’s
going to be an exciting ride.
Please continue to support New Beginnings as we continue to carry out our mission.
In Him,
Jeffery Becton
Executive Director
OUR MISSION
New Beginnings Are Possible, Inc. provides urban
youth exposed to at-risk conditions in Milwaukee
with a biblically-based moral foundation to make
healthy choices and become contributing
members of the community.
A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD…
Dear Friends,
2010 has been an especially rewarding year in the history of New Beginnings Are Possible
as this marks our 10th year serving the youth of Milwaukee from our Center on 37th and
Fond du Lac.The early NBAP seed that was planted with the youth at St. Charles
fostered our core belief — that “It is easier to build a child than to restore an adult.” This
belief became the foundation upon which our Youth Center ministry has grown Opening
in 2001 for two days per week, today we serve up to 50 youth five days per week during
the school year, and 65 youth during the summer.
What has made NBAP successful? The commitment to building life-changing
relationships. This commitment is evident in everything we do. We design our
programming to grow with our youth so that there is no “age out”; we retain our youth
as they grow.We invest in relationships with our staff, providing training and mentoring
to broaden and deepen their skills. Centering our program on relationships has resulted
in creating a stable and sustainable organization with proven delivery.
While we are proud of our journey to this point, we are more excited by the prospect of
reaching even more youth in the years ahead. Our Board has spent much time in thought
and prayer defining a clear vision for the next three years. Our efforts will be focused on
creatively doubling our capacity to reach 100 youth by leveraging our ministry
partnerships and building our volunteer base. Further, our goals include dramatically
improving the reading skills of our youth, ensuring that all are reading at grade level.
We cannot reach these goals alone. We thank God for the work He has accomplished
through our efforts at NBAP.We humbly ask you to join us on this journey with your
prayers and resources, as well as share our joy in seeing new beginnings for the youth
of Milwaukee.

W E ’ V E C O M E A L O N G WAY …
IT ALL STARTED WITH A SIMPLE “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO Y U....”
In the summer of 1996, a young men’s choir, His Music, from Northwestern University visited St. Charles place and planted the
seed, unbeknownst to them, for what would eventually become New Beginnings are Possible. While performing for the teens,
the musical young men came to find out that it was one of the teen's Birthday. They circled around the young man and serenaded
him with the Happy Birthday Song. Overwhelmed with joy, the young man cried....and later divulged that no one had ever sung
Happy Birthday to him before. The young man’s confession was a providential instruction from God to the leaders present that
the youth of the community lacked not only in the basic necessities of food, shelter, and clothing, but also in the basic necessities
of love, attention, and kindness. These leaders saw the need to help the youth learn to think about the infinite possibilities of
tomorrow, the radical potential of a new beginning. Imbued with this providence, six area pastors met and formed New
Beginnings are Possible. As a result of God’s grace, hard work, key partnerships, volunteers, donations, and a dedicated Board of
Directors, New Beginnings has been able to evolve into what it is today — a two-fold ministry that centers on a Youth center and
ongoing outreach to St. Charles Youth and Family Services. What began with a simple song has been transformed into a valuable
and viable ministry whose sole aim is to help make possible the impossible, to help create new beginnings.

THAN TO RESTORE AN ADULT
S T. C H A R L E S Y O U T H A N D FA M I L Y S E R V I C E S
Since 1996, NBAP has worked with male and female youth (ages 13–17) at St. Charles Youth and Family Services to provide
positive role models through Christian-based teaching. Although the youth are there for a relatively short period of time, they
desperately need encouragement and caring support. The work at St. Charles is 100% volunteer driven.
In addition to weekly Bible studies, we also provide:
• Arts and crafts
• Special events — concerts,Thanksgiving meal, Christmas gifts, birthday parties
• Career Night weekly speaker program
• A “Different Path” fellowship and fun time at the Youth Center
W H AT W E ’ V E A C C O M P L I S H E D I N T H E PA S T 1 2 M O N T H S …
• Formed a Community Advisory Board (CAB) to serve as a liaison between NBAP and residents in the neighborhood to
provide feedback related to our youth services provided and other community needs.
• Added new Community Partners to broaden our collaborative efforts to enhance students learning experiences.
• Strengthened the Summer Staff Intern Program with more effective screening to provide paid job training experience in
assisting with the summer enrichment programs.
• Completed our first East Coast Vision Quest. In collaboration with MCCA Sports and Divine Redeemer Church
(Hartland), six TAPS youth united with teens from colleges and youth organizations from around the country to participate
in recreational and educational camps during a mission-style trip to the East Coast.
• Expanded the NBAP Board of Directors to strengthen the leadership team with added skills and experience.
WHERE WE’RE GOING…
NBAP envisions a future where our youth feel safe and valued, and possess a sense of purpose for their lives. Our youth will
have a passion for learning, along with an understanding that education and determination are necessary keys to success. Our
youth will exhibit a commitment to spiritual growth based on a rock-solid foundation of Christian values. Our youth will act as
leaders, mentors, and role models for others while making life affirming choices and giving back to their community.
NBAP envisions a future where we have become a household name due to our impact in the community. We will garner
strong support from public officials and major employers to assist us in opening additional youth centers in target
neighborhoods. Our team of staff and volunteers will be comprised of exceedingly high quality individuals of strong moral
character. NBAP will use a sustainable business model in order to generate the resources needed in order to reach as many
people as possible.
In short, we envision a future where we have helped create as many new beginnings as possible.

The ownership of our building and side grassy lot for playground and
expansion purposes was formalized with the City of Milwaukee in 2008.
We thank the mayor, our Alderman and the City officials who all made
this possible. In addition, our cherished supporters helped out through
financial and in kind support.Thank you!
We completed exterior improvements in 2009.We would welcome your
input and help with our plans to install playground equipment, improve
the interior learning environment and building infrastructure. The youth
and neighborhood deserve the best!

today’s youth to be
tomorrow’s leaders.
