Bay Colony Golf Club is one of Golf ’s hidden treasures in the heart of
Naples’ popular Vanderbilt Beach area, nestled in a pocket of unspoiled
preserve land teeming with lush tropical foliage and native wildlife.
The Bay Colony Golf Club Story
1973
Visionary executives of Westinghouse Communities, Inc.
(WCI) laid plans and began building their versions of
Shangri-La in what were once overgrown mangroves and
scrubby tomato fields. Over the next two decades, the
developer established Pelican Bay, Bay Colony and Pelican
Marsh, which today represent North Naples’ finest gated
luxury residential golf communities.
Shangri-La: synonymous with any earthly paradise /
utopia — a permanently happy land, isolated from the
outside world. In the novel Lost Horizon, people who
live at Shangri-La are almost immortal, living years
beyond the normal lifespan and only very slowly aging
in appearance.
As a response to the growing demands for grand-scale
estates homes in an uber-private setting, the Estates at Bay
Colony and the championship Bay Colony Golf Course were
developed by WCI as an extension of Bay Colony within a
unique gated residential enclave in Pelican Marsh. Since the
beginning, the gated Estates at Bay Colony Golf Club, located
within Pelican Marsh, and Bay Colony, located within Pelican
Bay, were bound as one master community, the Bay Colony
Community Association.
1993
The Bay Colony Golf Course opened
originally as nine holes just north
of the entrance to the Estates at Bay
Colony on Pelican Marsh Blvd. Just
south of Pelican Marsh Boulevard
were an additional nine holes that
today are part of the Pelican Marsh
Golf Club course. One had to cross
the street to golf all 18 holes.
1996
Nine holes were added to each course to accommodate the
demands of affluent empty nesters migrating south, and the
Bay Colony Golf Club was established.
Poseidon: In Greek Mythology, “God of the Sea”
The official logo was established
for the Bay Colony Community
Association and Bay Colony Golf
Club featuring Poseidon, the king
and master of the sea. Bay Colony
and the Bay Colony Golf Club
were envisioned as a kingdom by
the sea and a playground for the
gods. Both Bay Colony Community Association and
Bay Colony Golf Club have always shared the Poseidon
logo and brand identity.
Bay Colony Golf Club is about coming to play golf when you want to play golf,
without tee times…… raising a glass and raising your expectations each and
every time you return …being recognized and welcomed like family…. having
every wish anticipated and granted… and celebrating life in the company of an
extraordinary collection of members who share similarly extraordinary lives.
Our members golf together, eat lunch and dinner together, entertain together,
vacation together, run charitable organizations and boards together and celebrate
holidays and life milestones together. It is a beautiful story of lives interwoven and
bound together through membership in Bay Colony Golf Club.

The Bay Colony Golf Club Story
1997
1997-98
The Southern Plantation Style Bay Colony Golf Clubhouse was
completed.
Bay Colony Golf Club played host to the Senior
PGA Tour two years in a row. Many a pro golfer
was quoted as saying,
“The Bay Colony Golf Course is among
the finest courses I have ever played.”
2001
WCI turned over Bay Colony Golf Club to the members. Since
this time, Bay Colony Golf Club has been a pillar of financial
strength and a benchmark of “best in class” executive leadership.
2008
Members of Bay Colony Golf Club expanded the Clubhouse,
adding the Southern Plantation Style wrap around Terrace,
brick paver Patio overlooking the 18th green, new state of the
art Culinary Kitchen, Private Dining Room and the redesign of
the Ladies Locker Room to accommodate the popularity of the
ladies golf programs at Bay Colony Golf Club.
2014
Members of Bay Colony Golf Club “Remastered the
Masterpiece.” A monumental restoration of the Bay Colony Golf
Course is completed in partnership with the original course
architectural design firm of von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, now
Smelek Design.
Fairways, greens, tees, bunkers, bulkheads, cart paths are
meticulously restored, refined and replaced, along with three
linear miles of trees along the perimeter. A monumental
achievement in golf course restoration is recorded in the annuls
of history.
2015
Bay Colony Golf Club is
honored with the
Distinguished Emerald Club
of the World award, a status
awarded to only the finest of
the top 1% of golf clubs
world-wide.
Bay Colony Golf Course architect Robert von Hagge is renowned for his signature rolling
fairways, moguls and complex putting surfaces which provide golfers with the exciting and
challenging features that today’s sophisticated and often well-traveled player has come to expect.
It was with an eye toward preserving the integrity of Robert von Hagge’s original course design,
while simultaneously enhancing the aesthetic beauty and playability; upgrading the conditioning
and technology that the monumental Bay Colony Golf Course restoration was completed
in 2014. Now, more than ever, golf at Bay Colony is an unparalleled experience.
