House of Lebanon Meets Neighbors at Brookside Block Party
Serving Lebanese savories, desserts, and freshly made on the spot
Lebanese coffee was House of Lebanon’s way to say hello to our new
neighbors at the 35th Annual Brookside Block Party held on Sunday,
June 22. House of Lebanon was one of the sponsors of the event. Our
goal was to meet and inform the community of the existence of House
of Lebanon and the establishment of the first Lebanese American
Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
Brookside Block Party is LA’s longest continuously running
block party. Funds obtained from sponsorship are used to
support community safety, historic preservation, disaster
preparedness, and activities like holiday caroling with a
horse-drawn wagon in the Brookside neighborhood and
Movie Night in the Park.
“Thank you, the members of the House of Lebanon board and volunteers
who manned House of Lebanon booth at the 35th Annual Brookside Block
Party,” said Roy Forbes, member of the Brookside Homeowners
Association and organizer of the Brookside Block Party. “It’s so
wonderful to have such a great new neighbors who embrace our
community and want to enrich it by being involved. Your presence only
added to the festivities and spirit of the event.”
People gathered around our booth to enjoy Lebanese food and learn about
House of Lebanon cultural center. “What you’re doing is very important.
Cultural diversity is important and it will further enrich our community,”
said a community member.
House of Lebanon sponsored the Watermelon Eating Contest. Kids gathered excitedly and
competitively around the table to try to win.
Our Board Members, including Judge James Kaddo, Chairman of House of
Lebanon, Amira Matar, and Wafa Hoballah came to the event to help out
and to meet our neighbors. “We want our neighbors to feel welcome anytime
at the House of Lebanon,” said Judge Kaddo. “Our cultural and community
center is being developed for our community to enjoy and benefit from.”
“Thank you for your support and participation,” said Roy Forbes. “We’re so
glad you’re in the neighborhood and have chosen to become part of the rich
and diverse Brookside fabric.” This is the second year House of Lebanon
sponsors an activity at the Brookside Block Party.
