FUN FACTS ABOUT FRANCE
Teacher shows 4 things on paper/white board and
explains the 4 Fun Facts About France
1. Baguette – 25 million baguettes eaten daily
2. Cafés – 7,000 cafés in Paris city. People walk
only 20 metres to a café.
3. Cheese –350 different kinds of cheeses.
4. Bridges – 37 bridges in Paris, thousands in
France many that are very old.
Fun Fact cards
Beautiful Feet Sunday France Actvity Sheet
– FUN FACTS asks these questions:
How many baguettes do people eat each
day?
How far do you have to walk to the nearest
café?
How many kinds of cheese?
How many bridges to cross the river in Paris?
How many people know Jesus in France?
EXTRA FACT:
– Only 1 person in every 100 in France knows Jesus.
CMS has missionaries in France so that more people can
know Jesus. Many children don’t even hear about Jesus
in Sunday School.

SCAVENGER HUNT MEMORY VERSE
Teacher places the words to Romans 10:8 around the
classroom.
Students have to find a word and then decide together
what order it goes in.
5 min
DISCUSS THE MEMORY VERSE
Remind children that many people in France do not
know Jesus. Many people who do know Jesus keep it
secret and don’t tell anyone else that they follow Him.
Use actions to present verse.
Romans 10:8 ‘But what does it say? “The word is near
you, in your mouth and in your heart. That is the word
of faith that we tell.”’


‘The word is near you’ – what is the word? The
good news about Jesus – that Jesus loves them!
‘In your mouth and in your heart’ – how do
people hear about Jesus? By people telling
them and living God’s way.

Romans 10:8 (with pictures of baguette, café,
cheese & bridge on the back)
Practise actions to teach memory verse
Present the challenge to the children that Christians in
Paris and France need to be willing to share Jesus. Why?
God wants people to know how much he loves them,
including all people in France. People in Australia need
to hear about Jesus, too. God wants people to:



HEAR about Jesus so they can know him.
ACCEPT Jesus as Lord of life.

Lesson 1 - STORY: CAROLINE PRAYS FOR PEOPLE IN FRANCE TO KNOW JESUS
Paris is a large city the about the size of Brisbane, but France is a country with nearly 3 times the
number of people as Australia. And not many people know Jesus – do you remember how many? (Less than 1
person out of every 100. How many children are at your school? How many do you think know Jesus?)
Today we are praying that people in France hear about Jesus, and that Christians are willing to share
Jesus with their friends, family and those they meet.
Let’s hear how a CMS missionary named Caroline Evenden did that.
Caroline works with university students in the city of Toulouse. The lovely town is in southern France
and is sometimes called: “the city of pink”, because all the buildings are made by stone are ‘dusky-pink’ in
colour.
Caroline has lived in Toulouse for almost 4 years. This year, Caroline wanted to spend more time
praying for students – when she woke in the morning, when she went walking for exercise, before she met
students for Bible Studies and when she walked home in the evening.
She decided to ask others to pray also for 10 students who were asking questions about Jesus, but
hadn’t yet decided to follow Jesus. Caroline knew that God says in the Bible that we can pray to Him and he
will answer. God loves to answer when people, even boys and girls, pray that more people will know Him.
So Caroline and her friends prayed for the 10 students.
One of those students was Naomi. At first, Naomi didn’t understand about Jesus dying for her on the
cross so she could be friends with God, but Caroline kept praying and chatting with her. Naomi came to the
local church in Toulouse, she came to Bible Studies at the university, and she soon began to understand that
Jesus loves her, died for her and that He rose again.
This year, Naomi decided to follow Jesus!
She soon began to tell others about Jesus, too. Her friend, David, also decided to follow Jesus.
Pray for Naomi and David to keep following Jesus and telling friends about Jesus. Thank God for always
answering prayer and helping people to know Him.
Do you have friends who don’t know Jesus? Can you think of 5 friends that you can start to pray for
today?

FROM THE BIBLE
Introduce the idea that, throughout the Bible, Jesus and his
followers told all kinds of people the good news.
See Acts 10. One of those people was Cornelius, who was an
important man and not someone Jesus’ followers would normally
get to know. Cornelius was different from them. He was the head
of a big army unit, not a fisherman or tax collector like some of
Jesus’ disciples. He was Roman not Jewish and ate things that
many Jews thought were not good to eat.
But God told Peter in a vision to go Cornelius’ house and tell him
the good news about Jesus. And Cornelius and everyone in his
house decided to follow Jesus!

Lesson 2 – STORY: THE GOOD NEWS IS FOR EVERYONE
A young Berber girl, Kella, was watching very carefully as she served coffee and breakfast to a young
couple who came into her father’s restaurant. Why was she surprised?
The couple smiled to her and thanked her for the food she brought to them. Then, smiling at each
other, they bowed their heads and prayed. She heard them thanking God for each other, for His great love for
them and for the good food. To her great surprise she heard them ask God to bless her and this café. But
why?
She was surprised. Why would complete strangers ask God to bless her? Before they left the café, she
wanted to ask them. And she did! They told her that God created her, loved her and had a very special plan
for her life. They were just asking God to do what He already wanted to do – bless her life with Himself.
After many talks with this couple, Kella is now a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ. She also looks
for ways every day to help other people to know about Jesus, too – even people who are different from her,
and especially people who might never hear about Jesus from anyone else!
Who do you know who you could tell about Jesus?


Black construction paper
Tissue paper in all colors
Glue that dries clear
Popsicle sticks for spreading the glue
Pencils
White Chalk
Scissors
Have an example or 2 ready to show younger students.
What You Do:
1. Provide each child with one large sheet of black construction paper, folded into 3 sections.
2. Children can decide what shape they want their screen - square top, triangle top, etc.
3. Using scrap paper and pencil, children can sketch a few ideas. These ideas can be based on actual stained glass
works but ideally the designs should be original to each child.
4. When ready, children can draw their design ideas on the black construction paper, remembering that they will
be cutting the middle sections out of their designs.
5. White chalk can be used to draw the outlines on the black paper.
6. Once the outlines are drawn, students can then cut away the middle areas, leaving a black line of paper.
7. Tissue paper which has been carefully torn into pieces, can be glued in the middle areas. Children should choose
colors that they think look good.
8. Let the screen dry and display on tables or hang from the ceiling in front of a window.
9. Attach the prayer requests written on cards below the window.
10. Remind the children to PRAY FOR FRANCE this week.

But snails and frog legs are not the main thing people
eat in France. Different countries have different main
foods. A lot of people in France eat meat, cheese and
desserts! In other countries people eat a lot of
potatoes or rice or chicken. What do we eat a lot of in
Australia? Bread?

Lesson 3 – STORY:
I wonder what is worse than eating ‘frog’s legs’ for dinner? That is a special French meal! Perhaps to
me it would be talking to a French person about God. It seems that the word ‘God’ seems to embarrass
people in France and make them nervous, but not for Abel.
Abel is a Christian boy going to school in Paris. Sharing Jesus with his friends and family is as easy as
having a conversation. In fact, to Abel, that is exactly what talking about Jesus is – a conversation. His mum
and dad saw a big change in Abel’s life after he accepted Christ and kept asking him: “What is wrong with
you? You are so different.” He would always reply: “Nothing. I just don’t want to be angry anymore.” His
parents thought being a Christian was a trend for Abel and would pass, but it didn’t. This past Easter, his
mother and father came to church with him. They had never gone to church before and they actually enjoyed
it and listened to all that was shared.
Abel plays on a soccer team at his school. There are lots of times when he could become angry (like he
did in the past), but now, he prays with his team-mates before every game. He asks God to help them play
well, play fair and honour Him in all they do. His team-mates haven’t all accepted Christ, but many of them
are open to hear what Abel thinks.
Abel has learned that if you pray for those you love, if you listen to them, and if you respect them, God
will open a door for you to share with them about who He is and what Jesus did for us on the cross.
Who can you pray for today – for the opportunity to share the good news about Jesus?

Sunday School
In France, by the time people finish school they often don’t believe in God or that He even exists. And
most don’t go to church or have never been to Sunday School. So some missionaries and Christians in France
put on a play that acts out the book of Mark in the Bible. It’s called the Mark Drama (or “Marc l’Experience” in
French). Students help to act it. The drama shows that Jesus was real and what he did on earth. It also shows
why Jesus had to die in our place so that we could be forgiven and made new.
Many Christian students invite their friends to the Mark Drama. Their friends often have questions
afterwards and there is time to sit and talk. This play is helping to open the hearts and minds of university
students to God’s plan to forgive all people who come to Him through Jesus.
Do you remember about the French student named Naomi whom we talked about a few weeks ago?
Acting in the Mark Drama helped Naomi to know more about Jesus, and helped her to decide to follow Him!
How can you let someone know about Jesus?
Let’s thank God for the ways we can let people know about Jesus. And let’s celebrate when people
decide to follow Jesus!

Giving to Missions through the CMS Money Box:




Encourage the children that although the topic of France is now finished, we want to continue to pray
and give to those working in France so that people can hear about Jesus.
Organise a time at your church when children can bring their money boxes to church and have a
special giving time during the service.
Perhaps at this service, there could also be pray for Christians working and sharing Jesus in France.
CMS Beautiful Feet Sunday resources will be sent to your church, including a DVD with many short
video clips. Perhaps one could be used on this special Sunday for giving.
