Bay Choral Guild’s March 2011 concert is an all-West-Coast-composer extravaganza! BCG explores
exciting trends in 21st century choral composition with a performance of exquisite music by living
composers from Southern California to the Pacific Northwest. Set to wide-ranging texts from St. Francis
of Assisi and Michelangelo to Pablo Neruda and Ken Rexroth, the works present a unique view of how
each composer uses music to give an audible dimension to the text and poetry.
The program showcases three world premiers by Bay Area composers L Peter Deutsch, Trevor Doherty
and Frank Ferko, works all commissioned by BCG. The full list of composers includes Eric Whitacre,
Morten Lauridsen, and Frank Ticheli (Los Angeles); Kevin Memley (Fresno); David Conte, Sanford
Dole, Kurt Erickson and Kirke Mechem (Bay Area); Robert Kyr (Eugene) and Eric Banks (Seattle).

About Sanford Dole, BCG Artistic Director:
Sanford Dole received his Bachelor and Masters degrees (composition and conducting) from the San Francisco
Conservatory of Music. A native of Berkeley, he was a founding member of Chanticleer and was the Assistant
Director of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus from 1987 to 1997. Mr. Dole is Music Director at St. Gregory of
Nyssa Episcopal Church in San Francisco, Artistic Director of the Sanford Dole Ensemble, and a member of the
Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra Chorale.

The Bay Choral Guild is a 40-voice, auditioned chorus based in Palo Alto with singers from around the Bay Area.
Founded in 1979 as the Baroque Choral Guild, BCG has a solid reputation for high-quality performances and
