OPTIONS FOR VOTING Utah State Law allows options for voting before Election Day, including Early Voting and Absentee Voting by mail and in person. *-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------* EARLY VOTING What is early voting? Utah Law allows voters to cast their votes in person up to 14 days prior to Election Day. The goal of early voting is to increase participation in the voting process and to relieve congestion and long lines at the polls on Election Day. Who can early vote? Any person who is registered to vote may vote early. Who should early vote? Any registered voter who does not want to stand in long lines on Election Day or who will be out of town on Election Day. Where can I go to vote early? Registered voters wanting to vote early can do so at the Morgan City Office, 90 West Young Street, Morgan, Utah 84050. Early voting for the Primary Election will be open at the following times: Tuesday, July 28th thru Friday, August 7th – 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except Friday, August 7th will end at 5:00 p.m. Early voting for the General Election will be open at the following times: Tuesday, October 20th thru Friday, October 30th – 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except Friday, October 30th will end at 5:00 p.m. *-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------* ABSENTEE VOTING Absentee voting allows certain persons to vote before Election Day. Absentee voting is commonly referred to as voting by mail or “absentee”. Any person who is registered to vote may vote by absentee ballot. 1 A person may apply for Permanent By-Mail Voting Status by contacting the Morgan County Clerk’s Office. (801) 845-4012. A separate absentee ballot application must be filled out for each election. This form is available online at the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s Website at: www.vote.utah.gov All completed forms may be returned to the Morgan City Recorder, 90 West Young Street, Morgan, Utah 84050. What is the deadline to apply for an Absentee Ballot? For regular absentee voting, the clerk should receive the absentee ballot application not later than the Friday before the election. For overseas voters, the clerk should receive the application not later than 20 days before the election. Individuals voting an absentee ballot in the office of the recorder must apply for and cast the ballot no later than the Friday before the election. What is the deadline to return an Absentee Ballot? An absentee ballot is only valid if it is clearly postmarked before (not on) Election Day and received in the recorder’s office before noon on the day of the official canvass. 2
