SO: To Speak Illustration Competition. Come and get creative in the SO: To Speak Illustration Competition! Southampton's Festival of Words is looking for those with artistic skills to get involved and create imaginative illustrations for some of the best sellers of our times. The competition winner will receive a prize of £40. To enter, select a book from the list below and create an illustration for an extract, or a front cover for it. Shortlisted entries will be exhibited at the Art House community cafe and the winning entry announced at the opening viewing on 21 October at 7.30pm. Choose from the following books: On the Road, Jack Kerouac The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins 3001: The Final Odyssey Arthur C. Clarke Birdsong, Sebastian Faulks A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush, Eric Newby The Last Unicorn, Peter S Beagle The Rules: Entrants must be aged 16 or over. Entries will only be accepted from residents with an SO Postcode address. Entries must either o be based on an extract of the book specified by the entrant at submission. A typed description of the extract should be fixed to the back of the submission; or o be a front cover illustration for the book, and should contain the title and author. Participants may make up to three entries. Entries must be A4 in size. Submissions must be framed, ready to hang - on the back, they must have either a string or a bracket. Entries must be available for exhibition at The Art House from the 21 October - 2 November. The judges’ decision is final. How to submit your entry: If you are eligible to enter the competition and your entry meets the requirements specified above, please submit your entry as follows: 1. Please fill out the submission form, downloadable from the website. Please note that only entries accompanied by a submission form will eligible for the competition. 2. Drop the entry off, with the submission form attached, at The Art House, 178 Above Bar St, Southampton, Hampshire SO14 7DW, at the following times: Saturday 10th, Sunday 11th, Tuesday 13th, Wednesday 14th October between 12pm and 6.00pm. (Please note that the Art House and its staff are not involved in the administration of the competition and will not be able to answer questions.) 3. The winning entry will be announced on the 21st of October at the exhibition launch at The Art House at 7.30pm. Shortlisted entrants will be notified and invited to attend the event. 4. Please note that submitted entries will not be retained after exhibition and will need to be collected.
