Take a new look
Special week will highlight library’s metamorphosis
Libraries aren’t just repositories for old
books and hives of children programs with
the little ones and
their parents
buzzing in and out
the doors. They’re
much more than
that – but old stereotypes can be difficult
to overcome.
That’s why Rolling
Hills Library is joining more than 160
libraries in the
United States,
Canada and Australia this month in
urging the public to take
a fresh look at libraries – and
see the various shades of services and programs libraries offer.
“Outside the Lines” is a weeklong celebration Sept. 13-19 to highlight the innovation happening in libraries. Its goal is to
show how they are vibrant centers for
learning, exploring, dreaming and community building.
Rolling Hills’ riff on the international
effort is “Color Your World … Outside the
Lines,” a series of programs for children
and adults.
“We want people to see public libraries
as places of creativity and imagination,
where they can relax, learn new things and
try something different,” li-
brary Director
Michelle
Mears said.
The schedule includes:
l “Go Crazy With Crayons” at 3:30
p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Savannah
Branch. Children ages 4 and older will
learn different ways to create with crayons
and oil and soft pastels. Sign up at
