Invitation to join the seminar Paths of Prejudice and Justice by the Anne Frank House and Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste 14-18 February, 2016 Financial partner of this project: A five day programme for students (of the age of 18 – 25 years) in the Anne Frank House Amsterdam, at the Memorium Nuremberg Trials and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. We are looking for participants from The Netherlands, Bosnia, Croatia en Serbia. Background The violent break-up of the Republic of Yugoslavia during the last decade of the twentieth century shocked the world. It was the first war on European soil since 1945 and again people were persecuted solely because of their ethnicity. Comparisons with events in World War II were often made. For young people the genocides taking place during both wars raise many questions. How can people do this to each other? What led to these conflicts? Could we have prevented them? To help you discuss these complex topics the Anne Frank House has developed a programme that places the war in Yugoslavia in a broader historical perspective.
