SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Two Canadian residents were arrested
and about 35 pounds of cocaine, methamphetamine and another
drug were seized late last week at Sunnyside Municipal Airport,
authorities said.
Bail for the two suspects from British Columbia has been set at $1
4 Canadian arrests tied to
Sunnyside drug seizure, murder
cases
million each, and they had to surrender their passports. Bail was
set Monday afternoon in Yakima County Superior Court when the
two suspects made a preliminary appearance. They’ll be
arraigned on Aug. 1.
The 24-year-old woman from Burnaby and the 52-year-old man
from Vancouver were seen handing a bag to a third person who
had just arrived on a plane that taxied over to their car about 9:15
a.m. Friday, an affidavit filed by police said.
Authorities seized the bag and later arrested the pair in a traffic
stop conducted with a K-9 police dog after they fled the area,
according to the affidavit.
The bag contained 7 pounds of meth, 23 pounds of cocaine and 5
pounds of either heroin or fentanyl, a powerful narcotic, according
to the affidavit, which estimated the value of the drugs at more
than $350,000.
Officials believe the two suspects may be involved with an
international drug operation, the affidavit said.

It was unclear what happened to the person from the plane.
Details in the affidavit were vague, and a prosecutor with the
Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office refused to provide
any additional information on the case.
The Drug Enforcement Administration declined to give any
information Monday afternoon.
The arrested pair could face three charges each of delivery of a
controlled substance.
