Windsor Girls’ School
26 June 2015
Garter Day 15 June 2015
The four Windsor Castle Ambassadors and Mrs Saunders were invited to be guests of
the Governor of Windsor Castle at this year’s Garter Day celebrations. This allowed
them to watch the procession of the Knights of the Garter and view the Royal family at
close quarters from the Governor’s residence and the Moat Garden. They also had
lunch and afternoon tea with the Governor and his family after the ceremony. It was a
wonderful day and one which they will not forget in a hurry.
Sixth Form
Six girls were short-listed and
went through a gruelling
interview process to become
the school's new Head Girl.
Year Information
There are a number of activities and events taking place over the next
few weeks.
We look forward to welcoming Year 8 students who are joining us in
September when they visit school on Friday 3 July. New parents will
also be visiting to learn about the coming year on 30 June at 6.30pm in
the Hall.
The school play ‘No Place Like Home’ is next week. There are
performances on Wednesday 1 July and Thursday 2 July. There are
still a few tickets remaining, please contact Mrs Stafford-Allen via
[email protected] to secure your seats.
Sports Day will be 9 July and takes place at Thames Valley Athletics
Track.
Year 9
Year 9 will be watching a performance based on the issues of internet
safety and child sexual exploitation. This is a play which has been
performed across all of the Royal Borough schools and aims to
highlight a number of growing issues in society.
Year 10
Students who are members of the ‘Alice’ Group will be undertaking a
walking tour of Windsor with Mr Haines and Mr Tilbury on Friday 3
July. This will be an opportunity for girls to learn more about the
history, architecture and famous people who have lived in the town.
Year 10 examination results will be coming home next week.
Year 11
The Year 11 Prom takes place at the Legoland Hotel on Tuesday 30
June at 7.00pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the end
of the GCSE examinations as a year group.

and £8 for Adults. Tickets will be available from
the cashier at Break 1 or by contacting Mrs Stafford-Allen

Rounders News
On Tuesday, our Year 9 team competed
in a rounders match against Holyport
School in an afternoon of action packed
sport at Windsor Girls’ School.
Though the team has only recently
formed, our students played superbly!
Storm Barnes led the way as the bowler;
forming a great partnership with Kay Brett
as backstop, and Joanna Kasaj and Tayla
Lawrence on first and second base.
The team demonstrated effective fielding strategies and were successful at scoring
many fielding rounders due to fast reaction times, accuracy of throws and effective
communication which saw many of Holyport being stumped out . Meg Bullock played
deep fielder and was impressive with some great long barriers and accurate throws.
Gabrielle McCarron, Emily Gardiner, Emily Swain, Alisha Cole and Monica Sangha
were all instrumental in a great whole team performance; it was a pleasure to watch.
Well done to all players.

Windsor Girls’ School had their first tennis match of the season against Holyport College this
week. The students played to the rules of Easy Tennis resulting in an 8 - 7 victory in matches
and 3 draws. The overall points were Windsor 183 and Holyport 173. Windsor fought fiercely and
deserved their overall win. The players finished off the afternoon by enjoying a bowl of
strawberries.
Festival of Education Wellington
On 19 June, eleven Year 12 students attended
the Festival of Education at Wellington College.
The event was aimed at students and teachers
and focused on a wide range of different
educational themes. Students enjoyed the
hands-on activities and the opportunity to speak
to experts in their field about future choices and
university courses. The festival certainly
generated discussion and provided our students
with food for thought. We would like to thank
Adele Kilby for her support in organising this trip.
