Define and act them out. (vocabulary) The Snowy Day By Ezra Jack Keats After reading Snowy Day, draw a picture with your child of an experience they have had in the snow. Write words your child says about the picture. (vocabulary) Mice By Rose Fyleman After reading, write descriptive words such as nice, long, small, pink, white. Practice words that are similar to and opposite of those words. (vocabulary) Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes By Eric Litwin During reading, ask your child to guess what color Pete’s shoes will change into. After reading, have your child draw a picture of Pete and all the items he stepped in. (vocabulary) Little Blue Truck By Alice Shertle During reading, talk about the rhyming words. After reading, write down these rhyming pairs and add other rhyming words to the pairs of words. Play with these rhyming words daily. (rhyming) Little Hide and Seek: Baby Animals By Charlie Gardner After reading, write name(s) of your child’s favorite mommy/baby animals on the top of your paper. Have your child draw a picture of these animals. Ask your child what animals eat, what they do, where they live. Write what your child says on your paper. (vocabulary) Ready for Kindergarten Super Chicken By Rebecca Purcell Talk with your child about the word “Super” in the title. Tell them this is letter “S” and “s” makes an “ssss” sound. Have your child find every letter “S” in the book. Have your child think of other words that start with “s” and write these words down. Do the same for words that start with the “ch” sound.
