BOLIVIA
Quick Facts
Location: You will find Bolivia on the continent of South
America, about halfway down and near the center. You could
fit our state of Montana into Bolivia three times.
The Land: The Andes Mountains run from north to south
through western Bolivia. Most of Bolivia’s people live in the
Altiplano, the high plateau between the eastern and western
ranges. The world’s highest lake, Lake Titicaca, sits at the
north end of the Altiplano. East (to the right) of La Paz are
forested valleys called the yungas. Further east and north,
wet, grassy lowlands, called llanos, are good for raising cattle.
Assemblies of God Facts: Ten U.S. Assemblies of God
missionaries work in Bolivia. More than 176,000 people
worship in nearly 2,000 Assemblies of God churches. Sixteen
Bible schools around the country and an extension program
are training about 1,400 more pastors and workers to help the
2,600 already serving.

The Name: Bolivia chose its name in honor of Simon Bolivar,
a general from Venezuela who defeated the Spanish and set
the area free from their rule.

Weather: The weather is cooler the further up into the
mountains you go. High in the Altiplano, the air is cold and
dry. Summer, from November to April, is the wettest season.
Heavy rain in the northern llanos creates humid tropical
forests. Winter lasts from June to September, while children
in the U.S. are enjoying summer. Many of the mountaintops
are covered with snow year round.
