HDGH Enjoys Park-Like Setting
Thanks to Groundskeeper Debbie
Mailloux and D. Banda Property
Maintenance
If you have not taken the time to walk the 33 acre site that is home to Hôtel-Dieu
Grace Healthcare and enjoy the beautiful landscaped grounds– you should. Thanks to
the efforts of our full-time groundskeeper Debbie Mailloux and the crew at D. Banda
Property Maintenance Ltd., HDGH staff, patients and visitors are able to enjoy this
amazing park-like setting everyday.
In September 2013, Debbie assumed the role of groundskeeper and complete
responsibility for all of the gardening, planting, weeding and trimming of the grounds
surrounding the Emara Building, as well as weeding all gardens across the campus,
picking up litter in the parking lots and entrances as well as emptying 65 garbage
bins across the campus daily. That is her routine in spring and summer. In the fall
Debbie adds cleaning up leaves and in winter she adds maintaining the salt bins and
using a snow blower to clean up all entrances and fire exits. Debbie completes all of
this work Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
D. Banda Maintenance Ltd. are contracted by the hospital to maintain the grounds
from April through November which includes all grass cutting and lawn care,
gardening, weeding, trimming and pruning of trees (everywhere except Emara) and
parking lot cleaning. Part of their contract includes winter work – December through
March when they pick up litter and clean doorways. The crew from D. Banda Property
Maintenance also works on landscaping improvements such as converting the
fountain in front of the Emara Building to a waterfall. The crew is usually here at least
two days a week, sometimes more depending on the week.
Debbie and the crew from D. Banda work well together and do a great job
maintaining the grounds at HDGH. When asked how she handles this type of work
Debbie said, “I love my job. I treat it like my home. The work I do at Emara is my
number one priority. I love planting the flowers in the spring and maintaining them
throughout the summer. Making sure the grounds are clean across the whole
campus is important to me.”
