Bubblegum Bubbles

Research
•
Research in facts:
–Dubble Bubble makes the biggest bubbles.
–Two pieces of
bubble gum will make bubbles better than one.
–If
the bubble gum is chewed for more than 40 seconds, it will become thin and hard
to blow bubbles with.

Hypothesis
If there is more sugar in a type of bubblegum, then the bubble will blow
bigger, because the sugar softens the gum, so the bubble is easier to
blow.
•
Procedure: Materials
Dubble Bubble bubble gum
•
Bazooka bubble gum
•
Extra bubble gum
•
Hubba Bubba bubble gum
•
Timer (To keep track of time)
•
Ruler
•
Human mouth
•
Procedure: Steps
1. Take two pieces of the same bubblegum.
2. Use the timer to chew the gum for 20 or 30 seconds. (Make sure you use the same time for each
bubblegum.)
3.Blow the bubble, in front of a mirror so you know you are holding the ruler right. Hold the ruler with
the centimeters up, and the ruler looking like it is coming out of your mouth.
4.Blow the bubble, and when it is at its biggest point, put your finger on the ruler where it is.
Variables
Constants: The time of chewing the bubble gum.
•
Controlled variables: The different brands of bubble gum.
•
Independent (manipulated) variable: The actual bubble gum.
•
Dependent (measured) variable: I measured how big the bubbles are by
using the centimeters on the ruler.
•
Data/Observations
Double Bubble bubble gum was the biggest bubble, and it had eight centimeters.
Bazooka bubble gum got four centimeters, and Hubba Bubba got five centimeters. The
bubble gum brand with the least amount of good bubble was Extra. Extra bubble gum
got one centimeter every single time I tried to blow the bubble gum, except one time.
That one time I was surprised because I blew the bubble seven centimeters.

Conclusion
The amount of sugar in each gum did not matter for how big of a bubble
you can blow.
•
My hypothesis was not supported.
