Two people connected to our St. Jude community had a chance to do just that! The first, Mr. Krakowiak, a familiar face and popular administrator at Elyria Catholic, was blessed with a chance to see our Holy Father from the White House lawn on Wednesday, September 23, 2015. Mr. Krakowiak, also known as Mr. K., also watched the Pope address the U.S. Congress the following day. Mr. K. could feel “goose bumps” as Pope Francis walked down the aisle and “everyone stood and applauded out of respect.” When asked what the Pope’s a2tude was, Mr. K. said, “He loves and respects everyone. You can see it in everything he does from his every ac4on and the message he shares regarding the dignity of every human being.” Mr. K. believes the overall message from Pope Francis is that “Our world is in great need of unity, and unity will only come through reconcilia4on and the presence of mercy in the hearts of all of mankind. Humility, meekness, and love are the ingredients to preserving unity, and Pope Francis is the living example of this message.” Seeing so many people who wanted to catch a glimpse of the Pope reminded Mr. K. of Zacchaeus, and how he climbed the tree so that he could see Jesus. Mr. Krakowiak hopes that all of us “Con4nue to pray for Pope Francis each and every day. He is without ques4on an instrument chosen by God to help heal and lead a world that deeply needs what he brings to us in the name of our Lord Jesus.” (con4nued on p.8) Teacher Feature Ms. Griffin By: Maggie Clark In this issue of the Jaguar Journal, we are featuring Miss Griffin who is a new teacher here at St. Jude. She has taught at our school before as a student teacher in Mrs. Hibler’s room in 2013. When she was in this position at our school, she enjoyed the Catholic environment. She has been teaching full-time for two years at a school in Lorain. She now teaches in first grade at St. Jude School. Miss Griffin likes how, as a school, we go to Mass on Fridays. Some things Miss Griffin likes to do are swimming, eating pizza, reading, watching television, and going on walks. Her favorite color is purple, and her favorite kind of music is country. She has two dogs named Bonnie and Clyde that are German Shepherds. She also has two brothers, one of whom is a police officer in Amherst. She also has a few cousins that go here. We are glad to have Miss Griffin as a new addition to our school, and we can’t wait to see what she does here next! PAGE 2 Star Student — Junior High Abby Urbaczewski In every issue, the Jaguar Journal will recognize one student in each grade level for adding spirit to our school and bringing the light of Christ to others. If you know someone who should be recognized as a Star Student, submit their name and the reason you selected them to Ms. Griffin or Mrs. Tollett. By: Christopher Phillips Abby is someone that you won’t find playing a sport in her off time, but you will find her drawing or reading a book. Her most favorite book is The Hunger Games. If she was going out to eat, she would probably like to go to the B Spot which is her favorite restaurant. Her favorite food to get there is grilled cheese with a side of french fries. Her family has one dog and one cat. The dog's name is Lucy, and the cat’s name is Rosey. She has one sibling, Nick, who goes to EC. Her mom’s job is babysitting, and her dad works at Mike Bass Ford. School would be another topic to talk about. Her favorite subject is Social Studies and her teacher for that is Mrs. Puskas. After she gets done with high school, the college she wants to go to is Miami of Ohio. Her dream vacation would be to go to Paris, France. So, now that you have learned about Abby and what she likes, you might be her next friend. Breakaway Review by Brooke Farley Break Away is an autobiography written by Alex Morgan. For those who are not familiar with Alex Morgan, she is the best woman soccer player in the world. Alex and her team played in the Olympics where they won the gold medal. They also won the FIFA World Cup this year. The book talks about how Alex Morgan became such an awesome soccer player. She is the youngest player on the Women’s National Soccer Team. Break Away is about soccer and chasing your goals. This book is about Alex’s life, goals, sports, and obstacles that got in her way. It also talks about her life as a young girl and an adult. If you enjoy soccer and reading, you will love this book! If you do not know a lot about soccer, I think you will still enjoy Alex’s story. It focuses on setting goals and chasing your dreams. Break Away is an inspirational and amazing book that I think most students will enjoy. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 soccer balls! 10 VOLUME PAGE 5 10 Roaring Reviews ... How High is the Sky? The movie starts out with a wedding between Mavis, Dracula's daughter, and Johnny, a human. All of the friends and family come including Murray the Mummy, Frankenstein, Blobby the Blob, and Wayne the Werewolf. A while after they got married, Mavis decided to invite her dad on a flight as a bat. On that flight, Dracula found out he was going to be a grandpa because Mavis was going to have a baby. When the baby was born, Mavis and Johnny named him Dennis. As Dennis grew up, he did not have his fangs yet. This gave Drac suspicion that he would not be a vampire. Close to his fifth birthday, if he did not grow fangs, he would never become a vampire. This made Mavis want to move away from monsters so it would be safe for Dennis. Drac decides to send Mavis and Johnny on a vacation while he tried to get the fangs out of Dennis. Once they were gone, Drac, Frank, Wayne, Murray, and Blobby the Blob went on a trip to get Dennis’s fangs. After everything failed, they went to vampire camp, but it wasn’t like it was when Drac was there as a kid. Everything was safe and fun for kids. They saw something from the old vampire camp, but it was off limits. A video of them was put online, and Mavis saw it and came home. When they got back, Drac got in trouble, and they were going to leave after Dennis’s birthday. You will have to see the movie to find out what happens at the party and if they do go away from monsters! I liked this movie, and I am sure you will too. She said the whole crowd was cheering and laughing, and it was a fes4ve and holy feeling! She stood for four hours to hold her spot and saw Pope Francis go by in the Popemobile. The large park she waited in had 40 Jumbo-Trons so the crowds could see and hear what the Pope was saying and doing. She feels that the Pope is so “HOLY” and was moved by his con4nued requests for people to pray for him. She said he kissed a lot of babies, and then people in the crowd would try to touch those babies. She believes the Pope’s message is that “It is the ‘liDle’ kind things we do for people in our family and community that are so important!” Mrs. Fox’s diocese, the Toledo Diocese, was second in the na4on for the number of people sent to see the Pope! So, think again, how would you feel if you saw the Pope? What would you do?
