This application is for those applying to become a Juried Artist Member of NHAA. Details

Optional: Artist Statement that specifically addresses the four submitted works
in order to clarify offer insight to the jurors. (50–word maximum) Jurors are not
required to review this statement.
o Artwork requirements:
o Applicant must submit four recent works completed in the last two years.
o Submission of more or less than four works will not be considered for
membership.
o All works submitted must be original. Reproductions are not accepted under any
circumstances. This includes slides, offset prints, inkjet prints, or other current
digital printing processes. Traditional printmaking–-silkscreen, etching,
monoprints, monotypes, collographs, block prints, engravings, etc. are
considered originals. Note: Photography and computer art applicants may
submit high quality traditional process or digital prints.
o All four submitted works must have been done in the same medium.
o Do not submit work created or copied from a copyrighted image of any kind. It is
the artist’s responsibility to abide by current state and federal copyright law.
o If artwork is of an unusually large size or weight, please call the NHAA Office at
431-4230 to make special arrangements for delivery.
o All submitted artwork must be professionally framed, wired and ready for
hanging. Clip or glass-edged frames are not acceptable. If the work is not framed,
it must be properly finished on the edges to indicate that the work is ready for
presentation and for hanging. See “Presentation and Framing Guidelines” on
page 6
o For sculptural/3-dimensional submissions, artist must give written instructions
on how artwork is to be displayed.
o Attach artist’s name, title of work, and medium on the back of each piece.
o All artists are required to bring their artwork to the indicated location.
o After jurying is complete, artists will be asked to pick up their artwork on the
indicated day.
o Bring your application, check and art pieces with you the day of delivery
Categories of art accepted for jurying–(for any category not listed below, please
contact NHAA prior to applying):
All methods, mediums and materials: drawing; oil; acrylic; watercolor; mixed media;
collage; pastel;
sculpture; ceramics; fiber; metals; glass; photography—wet process prints, digital prints;
computer art; traditional printmaking—silkscreen, intaglio, etching, block printing,
collographs, monotype, monoprints.
Please note: Ceramics, fiber art, metals, glass and other craft will only be considered if
in the estimation of the jurors the work is clearly presented as fine art. Installation art,
video, and multi-media art mediums will be considered.

Accepted/declined:
You will be notified by mail within 1 week if you have been accepted or declined for
membership. If accepted, the letter will indicate where to send dues.
Our fiscal year runs from May 1 to April 30 of the following year. Dues will be prorated
to reflect timing of acceptance during the fiscal year.
Criteria for Acceptance by the Membership Jury:
o Maturity of artistic concept: Jury looks for originality and a mature and overall
distinctive style.
o Mastery of the medium: Jury looks for technical skill in controlling and utilizing
the medium.
o Composition: Jury looks for competence in design, balance, color, values, focal
point, etc.
o Consistency of artistic concept: The works submitted should indicate a
consistency of quality, style and expression. Artists are strongly advised to
submit work that would be viewed as a series or small body of work.
o Presentation: Jury looks for high professional standards of presentation.
Professional quality matting and framing and overall presentation of the work is
important to the NHAA.
Qualifications of the Jurors and Jury Process:
Juried artist membership is determined by a jury of established NHAA artist members.
Each juror is an artist member in good standing and has had formal institutional and
professional training.
Jurors serve for a one-year term. For membership acceptance, the jury must be
unanimous.
Accepted NHAA Members:
Annual Membership Dues: $125, Senior $100, Student TBD

The benefits to our members are many, including:

o Opportunities to exhibit and sell your artwork at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery
and statewide locations.
NHAA member responsibilities are:
o Pay membership dues annually, membership is from May 1st to April 30th of the
following year

About the New Hampshire Art Association
The New Hampshire Art Association is a non-profit professional art association founded
in 1940. It is one of the oldest statewide art associations in the country. It consists of
over 250 members of painters, photographers, watercolorists, printmakers, sculptors,
and other fine artists living and working primarily in New Hampshire, Massachusetts,
Maine, and Vermont.
Our Mission
The New Hampshire Art Association connects visual artists with the public through
ongoing exhibits and educational activities to that encourage appreciation for
contemporary culture, foster creativity, and enhance community spirit.

Presentation and Framing Policies
Policies apply to all NHAA exhibitions, including both on and offsite locations. Customers
who purchase art from a professional art organization, such as the NHAA, should receive
artwork that is professionally framed and finished, front and back.
It is the sole responsibility of the artist to abide by current trademark and copyright
laws. Copyright infringement will result in the loss of NHAA membership.
Two-Dimensional Work
Works on Paper
(Including drawings, photography, and all printmaking)
1. Artist must indicate the edition size and number on any and all edition work. The
NHAA exhibits only original works of art. If it is an open edition, please state that
clearly.
2. All works on paper must be framed and should be matted or lifted away from the
glass with archival matting or spacers.
3. Frames and mats must be clean, professionally cut/constructed, and undamaged.
4. At delivery, all works must be wired and ready to hang. Sawtooth hangers will NOT be
accepted.
Works on Canvas
1. Works on canvas do not need to be framed as long as sides of canvas are painted or
finished with a strip frame.
2. Surface and corners should be taut, wrinkle-free, and free of visible threads or
staples.
3. At delivery, all works must be wired and ready to hang.
4. All work must be completely dry.
5. Works on artboard, masonite, wood, etc., must follow the above requirements and
instructions.
Three-Dimensional Work
1. Any three-dimensional work intended for wall hanging must have appropriate
hanging devices built into the piece. The piece should be wired if necessary and should
also include any instructions for hanging.
2. Consideration must be given to the underside of the piece to assure it is finished to
protect the surface on which it rests.
3. All three-dimensional work must be structurally stable or otherwise contained.
