The five Great Lakes are Superior, Huron,
Michigan, Erie, and Ontario. The Great Lakes
are located in the Northeastern part of the
United States.
These five lakes border the United States and
Canada. They are the largest group of
freshwater lakes on Earth. Some people call
the Great Lakes the third coast because of
its large size. People think of them as a sea
locked in by two countries.
Circle the Great Lakes on the map below.
Make a list of the Five Great Lakes.

Mississippi River
The Mississippi River is the second largest river in the
United States. It stretches about 2, 320 miles from
Minnesota to Louisiana and then dumps into the Gulf of
Mexico. In the past, many Indian tribes would settle
along the Mississippi River. They could use the water to
fish in and travel by canoe in.
In the year 2002, Martin Strel a famous long distance
swimmer swam this long river. It took him 68 days to
complete the swim.
James River
The James River is located in Virginia. It stretches from the
Blue Ridge through Richmond and dumps into the Atlantic
Ocean. This River was very important to the Powhatan
Tribe. The river would be a food source for them. Today
we use it to swim, canoe, and hike around. The James
River can be a fun place to visit during the summer.
