Colgate – Haz La U (Make the U) – Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards Deadline Oct. 15, 2016
Eligibility: High school senior of Hispanic/Latino descent (at least one parent) who plans to attend
college in the Fall 2017. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Awards range from $1,000--$3,000 for Regional
winners. Short essay, letter of recommendation, and GPA verification must be included with the

Music Center Spotlight Award—Performing Arts
Deadline: October 17, 2016
Scholarships and training in the arts for high school students. Eligibility: Students of exceptional talent
level enrolled in high school (9th-12th grades). Apply for evaluation in the following Performing Arts
Categories: Non-Classical Voice, Classical Voice, Non-Classical Dance, Ballet, Jazz Instrumental, Classical
Instrumental, and Acting. Apply and submit audition video online at www.musiccenter.org/spotlight .
No fees to participate. Awards range from $100-$5,000. An Information flyer is available in the College

Horatio Alger Scholarship
Deadline: October 25, 2016
For high school Seniors graduating in 2017 and planning to enter college in Fall 2017 to pursue a
bachelor’s degree (students may start at a 2-year institution and then transfer to a 4-year college).
Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, be a U.S. citizen, be involved in extra-curricular and
community service activities, have household earnings of $55,000 or less, and display perseverance in
overcoming adversity. Several scholarships are awarded in varying amounts from $7,000 to $25,000.

4. National Security Agency—Stokes Educational Scholarship Program Deadline: Postmarked before
October 31, 2016
Eligibility: High school senior planning to major in Computer science, Computer or Electrical Engineering.
Must be a U.S. citizen and have demonstrated leadership abilities. Must achieve a minimum SAT score of
1200 (600 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, 600 Math) or ACT of 25; 3.0 GPA. With this program,
the student will attend college full time tuition and mandatory fees covered up to $30,000/year) then
work during the summer at NSA (National Security Agency) for 12 weeks in areas related to his/her
course of study. Students acquire real-world experience and receive a salary year round. Upon
graduation from college you will work for the NSA in your field of study. Apply online at

Coca Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship

Seniors graduating in Spring 2017 and planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. postsecondary
institution. This is an achievement-based scholarship. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent
resident or temporary resident (in a legalization program). Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA at
the end of junior year of high school and have highly developed interests in their community as well as
leadership in school and academic achievement. Awards range from $1,000-$20,000. Apply online at

“MY RECPONSIBILITY TO AMERICA”

Patriot Audio Essay Competition. Grand Prize: $30,000 Scholarship. State winners receive an all-expense
paid trip to Washington, D.C, Feb. 25-March 1, 2017. Open to student grades 9-12, enrolled in a public,

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
Deadline: November 8, 2016
This award recognizes middle school and high school students who are U. S. residents and have
demonstrated exemplary community service. State honorees will receive $1,000 and an all-expensepaid trip with a parent to Washington, D.C. The national honorees will be awarded an additional $5,000.

AXA Achievement Scholarship
Deadline: (Until 10,000
applications are received or 11:59 pm on December 15, 2016, whichever comes first.
Eligibility: High school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year
college or university in the United States for the entire 2017-2018 academic year. Be United
States citizens or legal residents living or claiming residency in one of the 50 united states,
Washington, D.C. or Puerto Rico. Demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by
outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities. As stated in the
scholarship announcement, because reducing risk is woven into the fabric of the company,
special consideration is given to achievement that empower society to mitigate risk through
education and /or action in areas such as financial, environmental, health, safety and/or
emergency preparedness. Students have the opportunity to receive a $2,500, $10,000 or
$25,000 scholarship. In addition, for every student who wins a scholarship, a grant in the

ACSA (Assoc. of Calif. School Administrators) Region XIII—2015-2016 Student Essay Contest
MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE DEADLINE: March 24, 2017
All graduating High School Senior students are invited to submit an essay on the topic “How has a
teacher, administrator, secretary, custodian, or other school staff member made a positive impact in
your life whether at school, in the community and/or at home?” This could be a certain program, or
teacher or administrator who made a difference, or a combination of these factors. Award amount
ranges from $200-$500. A flyer describing essay details and judging criteria is available in the College

California Wine Grape Growers Foundation (CWGGF) Scholarship
Deadline: March 24, 2017
Eligibility: High school seniors who plan to attend a UC or CSU community college in California in the Fall
of 2017 and who a parent or legal guardian who is/was a vineyard employee of wine grape grower
during the current or past growing season. There are two $8,000 awards for students attending a UC or
CSU, and four $2,000 awards for students attending a California Community College. Selection is based
on financial need, scholastic ability, community involvement, leadership and/or work history and an

Awards scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 in support of Hispanics in higher education.
Requirements for all HSF scholarships are: must be of Hispanic heritage; be a U.S. citizen or permanent

MILITARY
Various branches of the military offer educational plans with scholarships and enlistment bonuses when
you enlist in military service. College ROTC programs offer officer training while a student receives a
college education and requires military service upon graduation. Go to the following websites: Army —

these plans is available in the College and Career Center and recruiters are often on campus to discuss
details with you.

You may be eligible for financial assistance because your
parents were in the military or work for a particular company
or belong to a union. Many companies sponsor scholarships for
employee children so make sure to ask your parent/guardian
if their jobs offer scholarships.
BEWARE OF SCAMS : Do not pay any fees to agencies who guarantee you money. Often their
services can be obtained free of charge online or at the College and Career Center. Remember,
scholarships are free money and you shouldn’t have to pay to get one.
