MBTA – STANDARD FOAM BALL (FB) LINE
MBTA usually uses the 210mm White Coated Foam Ball (+/-325 grams) for optimal stroke-like
warm-up (160mm White Coated FB of +/-170 grams for small children) with full body
engagement - rotation throwing with the use of both hands. The play with the use of the tennis
racket then mostly starts with the 90mm Yellow Foam Balls (+/-22 gr.) and goes over the
120mm FBs (+/-52 gr.) to the standard tennis balls (+/-54 gr.). With children and beginners,
the entire practice/session could be run with the 90FBs or with both the 90/120FBs only. The FBs
while having lower and slower bounce are giving more time for the action to the players, but
(unlike the red/orange 10&U balls) demand full body engagement in every stroke because of
their higher air resistance. They are an excellent tool for optimal modern tennis technique as
well as full court coverage development and enable players of any age/level to start playing
competitive games (in the service boxes) early in their development (mostly during the 1st
lesson already)! The FBs also enable high cardiac output combined with very low impact shock.
The 120FB GREEN is in our opinion the key ball/element to be used at any
level and is being used for optimal warm-up also by world-class players!!
AVAILABLE FOAM BALL (FB) LINE
Besides the above mentioned 90/120mm Foam Balls also 150/190mm FBs are available. All Yellow FBs
are offered in two densities (balls of lower foam density of +/- 62 kg/m3 are slower with lower bounce
/ higher density balls of the +/- 72 kg/m3 foam are faster with higher bounce). MBTA explicitly
warns that using the 150/190mm FB for playing with tennis rackets can be dangerous for
the players!! MBTA sometimes uses 150FBs with skilled players capable using them after clear
warning being given that all strokes must be supported by the body action and wrist needs to be
locked. MBTA seldom uses the 190FBs and sees them mainly as conditioning/coordination tools (not
for hitting w/tennis rackets). In general, unlike with other tennis learning systems being
developed after the initial DTBT rollout in 1997/98, the main focus of DTBT is at stroke quality &
sound technical foundation for further player development without any technical limits.

The above mentioned ball prices as well as shipping & handling fees are valid as of

All here presented DTBT Foam Balls by MBTA are produced from specially treated non-toxic
polyurethane foam (worldwide patented additive) in Germany. This material has significantly
extended longevity compared to majority of the polyurethane balls being offered on the
world market. The weight and density may vary up to +/- 6%, the diameter up to +/- 2%. Based
on request, higher amount of Yellow DTBT Foam Balls can be produced with custom
logo/logos printed on (up to 2 logos per ball). Please ask for details. Standard are MBTA/DTBT and
MyTennisWorld.net logos in respective colors as above.
