DIRECTIONS AND PARKING
The directions for your bus driver(s) and/or chaperones transporting students to the event are on page 6 of this
document. Parking is FREE for this event. Please read the following instructions carefully for directions and
parking information.
A. There will be a high volume of vehicles entering the parking lots beginning at 7:45AM so please plan your
departure time from school accordingly.
B. Please park in the designated lot according to your vehicle type. All buses will park in Honda Center’s main lot
(LOT 4) and all other vehicles will park in an auxiliary lot (LOT 5) located off of Douglass Road. If your school
is transporting children with disabilities, please contact the Ducks to schedule an alternate plan.
C. It’s going to be a packed arena with over 16,000 in attendance, so we encourage you to place a placard of
your school’s name on the bus window to identify it easily after the event.
THE WORKBOOK AND PLAYGROUND AREA
a. Lessons and Content
This is our most ambitious workbook in the event’s history! The workbook was designed to give students the
experience of building a circuit using a circuit board with low-powered components. The content is broken up into
three sections: origin of Light the Lamp, electricity, and circuit building. We hope your students will enjoy the lessons
in “Light the Lamp!”
 Lesson 1: Think Like an Engineer
 Lesson 2: History of Light the Lamp
 Lesson 3: It’s Electric!
 Lesson 4: The Electric Playground
 Lesson 5: The Starting Line Up
 Lesson 6: Drawing It up
 Lesson 7: Light the Lamp Challenge
1
The workbook was written with the Light the Lamp circuit board and components in mind. If you do not have these
items, you will need to go to the First Flight Field Trip projects page to learn how to make your own circuit board as
well as view the components needed to build the Light the Lamp circuit.
Please note: The Light the Lamp circuit requires safe amounts of electricity from 4 AA batteries. However, please use
caution any time you use electricity. Also, we ask that a teacher/adult is present at all times when students are using
these electrical components. Thanks for your cooperation!
b. Distribution
The workbook is intended to be completed prior to attending the First Flight Field Trip. Please distribute these
workbooks to your students as soon as possible so they can review the material, complete the activities, and
understand the concepts before the event.
c. Classroom (In-Arena) Segment
Students should bring their workbook to the event so they can follow along with the Anaheim Ducks players when
they explain First Flight Field Trip concepts. There will also be “pop-quiz” segments where prizes will be awarded.
Students are selected randomly based on the recommendation of their teachers.
d. Answer Key and Videos
We will send you an email early February with links to view the First Flight Field Trip workbook answer key.
e. Projects Page
Throughout the workbook. Students are directed to go to www.ducksscore.com/projects.html for additional resources
and activities that reinforce the First Flight Field Trip content. You’ll find the following items on this page:
 Light the Lamp Challenge presented by Autodesk
 Light the Lamp Circuit Board Template
 Instructions for a homemade engineering journal
 Printing graph paper
f. Light the Lamp Challenge (Lesson 7)
We’ve partnered with Autodesk once again to present the “Light the Lamp Challenge”. The challenge simply asks
students to build on their new found knowledge of electricity as well as the circuit they built from the instructions in
the workbook. While students can choose a variety of ways to complete this challenge, Autodesk has provided us with
a great project that takes Light the Lamp to a whole another level! Your students will be guided step-by-step to build
a table hockey rink with working lights and buzzer.
Unlike years past, setting up your class is easy after creating an account at Autodesk Project Ignite. Click on the banner
or go to bit.ly/FFFTinfo to be taken to the First Flight event information page where you can watch a getting started
video!

Share your project photos and videos with the Ducks to win great prizes such as Ducks tickets for the entire class
and Arduino and Makey Makey electronics kits. You can share them to the Ducks using the following:
 Email [email protected] with subject line Light the Lamp Challenge!
 Social media by using the #duckslightthelamp tag
 First Flight Field Trip projects page
We will highlight your projects at the First Flight Field Trip!
g. Exhibits Area – “The Playground”
You can download the map and the list of activities for this Playground Area by clicking this link.
TICKETS, SEATING, and ARENA ENTRANCE
You may access the arena using Honda Center’s main entrances beginning at 9:30AM. In addition, the corner doors
will offer faster access to the Terrace Level (400 sections). The First Flight Field Trip utilizes an assigned seating format
so please occupy the seats indicated on your tickets. For your convenience, we have also included a map of the
arena on page 8.
Please be in your seats by 11:00AM. Schools participating in the exhibition area will be notified to make their way
into the arena at 10:45AM. All schools who do not occupy their seats by 11:30AM will forfeit their reserved
seating. Please email Joseph Hwang at [email protected] if you plan on arriving late or if there are
unforeseen circumstances occurring the day of the event.
Will Call
The will call window is located on the east side of the arena and will open at 9AM. Please go to will call if the
following pertains to you:
 You added tickets after receiving your initial batch of tickets.
 If you registered for the event after 2/1 and have not received your tickets.
 You need to replace lost or misplaced tickets.
 You need additional tickets.

A. Pre-Orders
This is the best way to reserve this very popular souvenir because supplies are limited. Students can order
additional discounted Knott’s Berry Farm tickets for the Kids Club End of the Year Party for $12 each. Please
follow these steps to PRE-ORDER these souvenirs for your students:
Step 1: Collect order forms and funds from students. Checks can be made to the Wild Wingers Kids Club.
Step 2: Please fill out the souvenir order form on page 7 and fax or email it back to the Anaheim Ducks by
February 12th.
Step 3: On event day, drop off the order forms and payment at the Wild Wingers Kids Club booth located
outside section 214. We will provide you with a receipt and instructions for picking up these souvenirs after
the event.
B. Day of Orders
No day of event orders will be taken this year. For souvenirs, we encourage you to go to the Anaheim Team
Store located at the south end of the arena.
OTHER ITEMS
a. Warm Clothes: All attendees should dress for a cold environment. The temperature inside Honda Center
ranges between 50°F and 55°F.
b. Lunch: When the Anaheim Ducks skills competition begins (at 12:00PM), everyone is encouraged to eat in
their seats. Participants should bring lunch because concession stands will not be open. Also, please refrain
from bringing metal utensils.
c. Workbook: Students should bring their workbooks and writing utensils to the event. Do not bring circuit
components or battery packs to the event.
d. Backpack: Students should bring a backpack to carry all of the items listed above as well as handouts and
giveaways from the exhibits area.
e. Disabled Attendees and Accommodations:
o Seating: The Honda Center is an accessible building and this means that all levels can be accessed
by all attendees. If you contacted the Ducks regarding a disabled student in your group, we have
assigned an accessible seat for them. These seats do not require the use of steps.
o Drop-off: We have provided a drop-off area for groups who have students with disabilities.
Schools must contact Joseph Hwang at [email protected] prior to the event to receive
approval to use this drop-off location. Please refer to page 6 for this location.
o Other Accommodations: For items not covered in previous sections, please contact me right away
so that we can best serve the students who need special accommodations.
f. Home School Groups
If you need a place to pass out tickets and workbooks, there is a “home school meet-up” location
designated right outside the Southeast Entrance of Honda Center (see map on page 9). Please be
considerate of other home school groups when using this area. Thanks for your cooperation!
g. Photography
4
The Ducks will be recording video and taking photographs for content relating to the Ducks S.C.O.R.E.
program. If you believe parents will not agree to the possibility of having their child’s image recorded,
please contact us immediately.
h. Sound
The field trip, with over 16,000 in attendance, will be loud! If you are sensitive to sound, we highly
encourage you to bring ear plugs.
i. Emergencies and Security
 The area outside of section 214 serves as a hub for information and emergency solutions. Please
communicate this to everyone, especially students, attending the event.
 Honda Center is a big place and there’s a possibility that students may get lost in the arena.
Please tell students that if they get lost they SHOULD NOT leave the building at any time or with
anyone they do not know. This includes Ducks or Honda Center employees. Instead, students
should do one of the following:
i.
Seek help from a Honda Center usher, police officer, security officer, or a Ducks employee
wearing a name tag or Ducks identification badge. This employee will escort the child to
their seat/section and as a last resort, to section 214
ii.
Seek assistance at section 214
 Law enforcement and arena security will be present to maintain a safe and fun experience for you
and the students attending the First Flight Field Trip. Your safety is of the utmost importance
here at Honda Center. We will be conducting random bag searches for your safety.
On behalf of the Anaheim Ducks, thank you for participating in the Anaheim Ducks First Flight Field Trip. If you
have any questions or concerns that were not addressed in this letter, please email me right away. On the day of the
field trip, please seek assistance at the fan relations booth outside of section 214. Lastly, let’s have a fun,
educational, and safe field trip experience on February 23, 2016. We’re excited to host you and your students here at
Honda Center!
Sincerely,
Joseph Hwang
