manager of Rice's Star Burlesque Co. As a Young man he was a clerk with Cunard Steamship Co. in New York before getting into the
Comic Opera business. "Evangeline” was the first American Production billed as a Musical Comedy and proved to be very popular.

TP indicates this history was written by "An Acadian". Morley 25. In these volumes Richard
claims to have reconstructed aspects of the Acadian Expulsion that were previously lost due to
critical documents having been carried off, destroyed with malice aforethought, or simply lost.
When brought face to face with systematic attempts, unmistakable and continually renewed, to
falsify history" the author determined that "silence became a fault, and that the finger of scorn
must be laid on these dishonest practices, and on those who perpetrated them with malice
pretense." Which he does.

91. Mary Miller Chipman's Album Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, April 1833. [Covers a period from April 1833, the year she was
married, to March 1843). Mary Miller Chipman was born in 1816, the daughter of Handley Chipman Jr. & Ann Hot. She married
Alexander Tremaise one month after the beginning of this album on May 25th, 1833 in Cornwallis Township, Kings Co. N. S. Handly
Chipman Jr. was the son of the well-known Planter Handly Chipman who came to in Nova Scotia in May 7,1761, In half dark brown
calf with marbled boards and end-papers. Pp.(142 pages with 52 blank pages). 9.75 x 8.25 inches (24.8 x 21 cm). One small
watercolour, one full page pencil sketch and one small pencil sketch "North Rock, 14 miles from Bermuda". unfinished pen & ink
sketch. The spine and corners have been expertly repaired as well the outer edge of the title page and the full page pencil sketch.
There is some staining to pages where illus. from 19th century newspapers were removed. Nine poems by close friends(?) as they are
signed by unknown poets with Canadian addresses. Some maybe by Mary Miller Chipman. Seven-page index of flowers.

Cowdell (1769-1833) was a author music teacher and Methodist
preacher as well as running a small shop on Duke St. in Halifax. This title
is the second edition of a work he wrote while travelling in Ireland and
England. Hoping to raise money so he could return to Halifax. According
to Thomas B. Vincent; (Cowdell, Thomas Daniel in Dictionary of
Canadian Biography Vol.6, 1987)"Cowdell's significance in early 19th
century Maritime life rests on his poetical accomplishments". Vincent
remarks that in the 1811 edition 24 songs and and lyrics were introduced
into the text at various points.

As a symbol of Atlantic Canada and the golden age of sail, the
Bluenose has no peer. She was launched in Lunenburg, NS, 26 March 1921.
Built entirely of Nova Scotia wood, except for the Oregon pine needed for
the masts. When the Canadian schooner Delawana lost the first match to

the Gloucester schooner Esperanto, there was dismay in Nova Scotia. The search for a new design that would bring the trophy home
led to W.J. Roue and his masterpiece, Bluenose. Angus James Walters (9 June 1881 – 11 August 1968) was a sailor and sea captain
who skippered Bluenose from 1921 to 1938. Walters captained Bluenose to five international sailing races, and was undefeated for
seventeen years.

In The Attaché Haliburton presents his hero as a member of the
American legation “to the Court of Saint James.” This is undoubtedly
Haliburton’s most ambitious work. In it he tried to improve on his reputation as
a satirist by turning his examination of human foibles from their peripheral
manifestations in Nova Scotia to their centre in Britain. The Attaché became a
respectable popular and literary success. Even the most condemnatory critics
in Britain found much to praise in the books, and the sales, though smaller than
those of The Clockmaker, were quite substantial. Haliburton still remained the
seemingly inexhaustible raconteur and master of racy frontier diction and the
excellence of this quality was by itself sufficient to obscure the fact that much
more often in this work than in The Clockmaker the gap in probability between
the anecdote and the meaning which the author applied to it had become too
great for ready acceptance.

The first Lutheran church in Lunenburg was built in 1770 by German settlers; most of whom came
from Luneburg in Germany. From 1749 to 1753, these "Foreign Protestants" came to Nova Scotia
encouraged by Colonel Edward Cornwallis. They played a crucial role in the initial expansion of the
British colony and in particular the founding of Lunenburg. This catechism was likely requested by
Rev. Ferdinand Conrad Temme who was Minister at the Lutheran Church in Lunenburg from 18081831. He was a native of Luneburg, Germany and was ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
1787. Due to the Napoleonic invasion Temme fled to Pennsylvania to serve as a pastor, from whence he
was called to fill a vacancy in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in 1808. Once in Lunenburg he recognized the
need for his congregations to have access to biblical study aids and was instrumental in writing and
having printed teachings specifically for those in his care. A rough translation of the title is - Dr.
Martin Luther's catechism, and, with a distinction of the highest order, the Christian Church, together
with a collection for Christian Lutheran Christians in the English North America. From Conrad
Ferdinand Temme, professor and pastor of Lunenburg, in Nova Scotia, and his co-members of the
Societal in England.

Charles W. Torbett (active 1810-1842) was an artist and engraver who
worked in Halifax from around 1810 to 1833. As well as engaging in the
production of book-plates, maps, portraits, treasury notes, book illustrations
and silver designs, he did all of the engravings and some of the drawings for
Haliburton’s “Historical and Statistical Account of Nova Scotia” published in
Halifax by Joseph Howe in 1829. He also engraved plans and portraits for
drawings by John G. Toler.

According to David Weale, DCB Vol.IX, Rev McDonald (1783-1867 ) was a Presbyterian minister
who served PEI for over 40 years. He wrote hymns in both Gaelic & English. This edition is likely a
later compilation of his Spiritual Hymns first published in 1830. According to Weale, some of
McDonald's elders published these hymnals for use in their services and included their own hymns to
different editions. Other hymn writers who wrote for this edition were Ewen Lamont, Elias Roberts
and John Compton.
