As a welcome guest at Savanna or to those who may have the Savanna Lodge or the Sabi Sand Wildtuin on their
‘bucket list’, I would like you to be amongst the first to have the opportunity to buy, at a special prepublication
price, my new book entitled Never a Dull Moment. Your support will help me bring this book to life and will
enable us to celebrate the 30th anniversary of my arrival in the Sabi Sand in 2012 with its publication.
All prepublication funds will be held in trust, pending the actual printing of the book which, as you will
see from our website, will be ready for printing and distribution before the end of the year. This book is my story
of the years I spent working in the Sabi Sand Wildtuin and the many experiences I have shared with colleagues
and guests.
Molly Buchanan who has previously been published by Londolozi Publishers, National Geographic,
Penguin and others, has helped me with writing and editing as well as the picture selection and design of the
book. More than 95 percent of the 250 photographs which appear in the book come from my photo library,
although here and there, to make a pertinent point, I have selected photographs taken by others.
I would particularly like to thank David Blumberg, Mike Davis, Mike Pimstein and Dave Varty who have
given me such valuable support in publishing this book.

APPLICATION FOR PREPUBLICATION EDITIONS

The new publication, Never a Dull Moment, by Paddy Hagelthorn, is due to be launched in November 2012.
It will measure 280mm x 250mm and will contain 208 pages of text and about 250 photographs, the majority
of which have been taken by Paddy Hagelthorn. It will be printed on 150 gsm matt art paper. Molly Buchanan
whose books has been published by Londolozi Publishers, National Geographic and Penguin. has assisted Paddy
with the writing and design of the book. The book has been edited by Ron Irwin, University of Cape Town. The
Sabi Sand Wildtuin Rhino Security project will receive a percentage of profits from the sale of books.
Sponsoring Subscribers’ Edition
Only fifteen Sponsoring Subscribers’ Editions will be available. Each copy will be bound in full leather and have
a matching leather-trimmed slipcase. Subscribers’ names will be inscribed in the book and a message signed by
the author will be inserted onto one of the title pages.
The pre-publication price of the Edition is R5 000.
Collectors’ Edition
The Collectors’ Edition numbered 1 to 50 is also available by private subscription. The half-leather edition with
matching leather-trimmed slipcase will be inscribed with the name of the Collector and will also carry a message
signed by the author.
The pre-publication price of this Edition is R3,500.
Special Edition
A limited number of special copies are available by subscription. Names of subscribers will be included in the
book which will have standard binding and a matching slipcase. This is a particularly attractive gift.
This edition sells at R495.
Inscription of names
For names to be inscribed in the book, applications on the appropriate form need to be received no later than
15 September 2012. Please fill in both first name and surname as you would like your name, or the name of
the recipient of the gift, to appear in the book. A message will be inserted on the title page of sponsored and
subscribed copies of your book which will be signed by Paddy Hagelthorn. We will email you a confirmation of
the names and your message (if this is a gift) which will appear on this insertion.
