END OF THE SECOND BOTTLE CAP OPERATION –
E STOPP FIR E MUPP at THE EUROPEAN SCHOOL

A splendid lesson of recycling and of solidarity “from children to a child “ !
Friday, October 26th, pupils and partners were in the salle des fêtes of the European School
Luxembourg 1 to meet Antoine and his superb assistance dog, Fleya, whom they had
sponsored together through the collection of plastic caps. During the ceremony a chèque of
13,000€ was presented to the French association Handi'chiens, who had educated Fleya.
The European School Luxembourg 1, started the project to collect plastic bottle caps in January
2009. Their objective was to sponsor an assistance dog for a person in a wheelchair, with the French
association Handi'chiens. To achieve this, the school needed 52.000 kg of plastic bottle caps, which
Valorlux sponsored at 250€ /tonne, a total of 13,000€.
Helped by Hein Déchets, who take the bottle caps at no cost, by Sources Rosport, who provided 25
tonnes, supported by Handi’Chiens délégation luxmbourgeoise and with a tremendous response
from the whole Great Region, in May 2011, the goal of the collection was reached. In June, Benoît
D'Arras, 13 year old, was given Eden, a golden retreiver.
Encouraged by this wonderful success and its lesson of solidarity, the action “E Stopp fir e Mupp”
continued with the same partners and ASA Abl (Amicale vun der Schoule fir Assistenzhonn). In
only one year, with the help of a very generous donation and the continual growing support
everywhere in Luxembourg, a second dog has been sponsored : it is a 2 year beige labrador female,
Fleya. She helps Antoine Legall, 11 year old, since June 2012.
This friday, 450 pupils, from 3 to 11 year old, and many representatives of the different schools and
companies, coming from all over Luxembourg, gathered to welcome Antoine and his parents from
Anceaumeville, in Normandy, together with Fleya.
A video illustrated for the children the importance of the action „E Stopp fir e Mupp“ and the
strengh of the relashionship between Antoine and the dog which they had sponsored for him.
The pupils were also shown the impressive list of those others who help in the collection of plastic
caps : more than 50 schools and more than 50 firms and administration services !
Antoine also showed us what can do Fleya to help him in his everyday life : open a cupboard and
take something inside it, close the cupboard, pick up something from the floor, ... and above all
share affection.
Marie-Claude Lebret (funder of Handi'Chiens) and Nelly Nash (representative for Handi'Chiens in
Luxembourg) made a demonstration of the education of these assistance dogs, with dogs actualy in
education in Luxembourg.
After this resounding success, the operation “E Stopp fir e Mupp” continues. A new target has been
set : to sponsor a 3rd dog from Handi’Chiens by collecting plastic caps, again with the partnership
of Valorlux, Hein Déchets, Sourcces Rosport and ASA Asbl. ( www.assistenzhonn.com), always
with the idea of recycling the plastic caps and helping to preserve the environment.
