Songs of Christmas, Our Favorites… What are Yours?
My favorite Advent Song is In the Bleak Midwinter, text by
Christina Rosetti. The carol speaks of the hardness of the
human heart and the desire for God to soften it – my favorite
line: “What can I give Him, poor as I am, if I were a shepherd,
I would bring a lamb, if I were a wise man, I would do my
part. Yet what can I give Him? Give Him my heart.”
–Pastor Warren
Of course, my very favorite Christmas songs are the wellknown Christmas hymns that I grew up singing and love
singing every year! But, Feliz Navidad is also a favorite
because I love speaking (singing) Spanish and it was always a
favorite in my classroom when I was teaching. It was more fun
to sing when we broke out the maracas!
–Pastor Katie
My favorite Christmas Carol is Joy to the World, because it
reminds me that God already sent joy to our world; “the Lord
is come!” Our challenge is to embrace joy, rather than all the
joy-stealers sent by Satan to disrupt and stifle our joy.
–Pastor Vic
My favorite Christmas song growing up was The Little
Drummer Boy. I still really enjoy it, though my favorite song
these days is the simple three-refrain version of O Come Let
Us Adore Him: “O come let us adore Him… For You alone are
worthy… We’ll give You all the glory… Christ the Lord!”
–Pastor Seth
The First Noel has been a favorite song of Christmas for me
since I was a little kid. The melody of the song catches my ear
and the lyrics capture my imagination as they tell part of the
remarkable story of Christ first coming…”born is the King”…
–Pastor Kelly
O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas song simply because it
highlights the mystery of God becoming human. The line, “Fall
on your knees” sums up the emotion I feel when hearing this
song. God came to live among us and to show us the Jesus
Way. The Savior’s birth was truly a divine moment and a
moment in history worth falling on your knees for.
–Pastor Ryan
