Bring your spouse, significant other, girlfriend or boyfriend – or your best friend – and join 24 other
romantics for a Valentine’s Day afternoon “Eagle Cruise for Nature Lovers” on beautiful Cachuma Lake.
This afternoon event, sponsored jointly by Santa Barbara County Park Foundation, Inc. and Santa Barbara
County Parks, will take place on Saturday afternoon, February 14 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Think of this fundraising excursion to benefit the Park Foundation as an afternoon prelude to a romantic
dinner. And for really romantic couples, a package that includes the lake cruise AND an evening’s lodging at
one of Cachuma Lake’s famous yurts or a cozy Central Coast Cabin can be a Valentine’s Day celebration to
remember.
Valentine’s Day also falls within eagle viewing season, so there is a strong chance to observe American Bald
Eagles at fairly close distance. County Parks Naturalist Liz Mason Gaspar will be aboard our boat to provide
interpretive commentary about the lake and its surrounding landforms, plants and wildlife, and especially
eagles and other birds. Light snacks, wine, other beverages will be provided.

Cachuma Lake Recreation Area is one of California’s most picturesque destinations. Located just 18 miles
north of Santa Barbara on CA Route 154, the recreation area, many campsites, and most recreational facilities
are tucked on a peninsula nestled on three sides by the fresh water of 3,250-acre Cachuma Lake.
Cachuma Lake Recreation Area is managed by Santa Barbara County Parks, and offers year-round camping,
fishing, lake cruises, naturalist-guided nature programs, and other recreation. The lake is also the site of the
renowned Cachuma Lake Nature Center, which offers hands-on exhibits for adults and children that interpret
the rich natural heritage of the lake and the Santa Ynez Valley to thousands of visitors each year.
Santa Barbara County Park Foundation has been established to help sustain and enhance the county’s
heritage of regional parks, open spaces and trails through community partnerships. Recently reactivated with
new directors and advisory board, the Foundation lately sponsored the production of the first-ever County
Parks calendar. The 2009 calendar includes pictures in various media by local artists, designed to raise the
profile of County Parks (January 2009, for example, is represented in the calendar by artist Marcia Burtt’s
acrylic painting that appears above, January, Lake Cachuma ).
The Foundation also co-sponsored last summer’s outdoor film screenings at the Courthouse Sunken
Gardens, and is currently working to expand outdoor films this summer both at the Courthouse and to other
parks throughout the county. Expansion of volunteer efforts is another mission of the Foundation, with
plans this year to encourage “Friends of” groups for many parks in the County Parks system.
We hope you’ll join us for our Valentine’s Day afternoon “Eagle Cruise for Nature Lovers.”
