A secure and responsible way to retire IT

A secure and
responsible
way to retire IT
HP custom recycling and on-site data destruction
for the United States and Canada
Retiring information technology (IT) equipment can be a challenge.
Your hardware may contain customer account details, proprietary
data, or private records—highly sensitive information that, if
handled inappropriately, could expose you to legal liability or
damaging public attention. What’s more, because these products
contain metals and other substances that can impact the
environment, they need to be handled responsibly.
At HP, our commitment to data security and environmental
responsibility doesn’t stop once a product reaches the end of its
useful life. We’re committed to proper handling methods, to give
you confidence your private data and environmental standards
aren’t compromised.
Our on-site data destruction and off-site recycling service is ideal
for organizations that need to comply with specific governmental
regulations and laws, particularly in the defense, healthcare, and
financial sectors.
With programs customized to meet the needs of businesses of any
size, HP has the experience and expertise to help you meet your
environmental and data security goals. We can even give you
a customized estimate for recycling old electronics from
other manufacturers.
Security you can rely on
You can be confident that HP handles your private information
appropriately and securely, and that our recycling processes are
environmentally responsible. All data left on storage devices is
irrevocably destroyed during recycling. Plus, the recycling process
itself complies with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards
and all applicable environmental regulations.
We offer a certificate of destruction on request. It’s our guarantee that
we have properly destroyed the products and that the data cannot
be accessed. HP also offers specialized reports that cover details you
may need, such as a list of serial numbers of the recycled items.

Customized and compliant
We work with you to create a customized solution that ensures
hardware is destroyed and recycled in a way that meets even
the most stringent requirements. HP’s secure and certified data
destruction complies with Department of Defense standard
5220.22-M, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley, and other privacy protection laws.
We can destroy data on all types of media, including hard drives,
servers, DVDs, CDs, floppy disks, magnetic tape, USB memory sticks,
and Secure Digital cards.
HP on-site destruction options
Degaussing
Magnetic media such as hard drives, floppy disks, and magnetic
tapes are destroyed by a process which removes or reduces the
magnetic field of a disk or drive, and destroys the data on these
devices, leaving the drives inoperable.
Bending
Specialized National Security Administration–approved machinery
physically destroys hard drives by bending them—breaking the
drives and their internal components. The data platters are bent
and separated from the hub, the hard drive housing is cracked, the
PC board is broken, and the read/write heads are demolished.
Shredding
This is the most secure method of physical hard drive destruction.
A truck-mounted mobile hard drive shredder safely and securely
destroys hard drives, optical disks, and other media devices by
shredding and destroying the equipment.
