I can recognize a unit fraction as part of a whole. I can identify and explain the parts of a written fraction. 3.NF.2 I can describe equivalent fractions. I can recognize simple equivalent fractions. Fraction Vocabulary Words 1. Denominator – tells the total number of equal parts in a fraction; the bottom number 2. Numerator – tells how many equal parts are described; the top number 3. fraction – names equal parts of a whole, a part of a set, or a location on a number line 4. benchmark fraction – commonly used fractions such as ¼, ½, 2/3, ¾, and 1/3 5. Simplest Form – a fraction with a numerator and denominator that cannot be divided by the same divisor except 1. 6. mixed numbers – numbers that have a whole number part and a fraction part 7. equivalent fractions – fractions that name the same part of a whole, same part of a set, or same location on a number line. 8. Half – (plural - halves) One of 2 equal parts of a whole 9. Fourth – One of 4 equal parts of a whole 10.
