2015 STAMP PROGRAMME
The Chair advised the Committee that Cabinet approval for the 2015 stamp programme had
finally been received.
A Day in the Islands
The permission was given by the Department of Tourism to use the pictures selected from
their website to facilitate in the development of this stamp issue. It will consist of five
stamps, a First Day Cover and a Souvenir Sheet. The suggested pictures for the First Day
Cover and Souvenir Sheets are kite surfing and rock climbing respectively. With this issue,
permission will be sought to feature a living person on a stamp.
After a suggestion from a committee member, the Chair asked the Asst. PMG, Marketing
& NPD to obtain pictures of the fishmongers on the waterfront for use in the stamp issue.
The Asst. PMG, Marketing & NPD suggested using Facebook to request pictures so there
be a wider variety to choose from, and she was given approval to do so.
Ships of the Cayman Islands
During the discussion of this issue, several committee members volunteered to do research
of ships which could be included in the issue. It was noted that the Admiral Sturdee and
the Admiral Beatty were built in Cayman Brac by Nathaniel and Dwight Tibbetts, and Dan
and Darrell Hunter all Cayman Brac brothers. These ships are a very important part of our
history and should be considered for inclusion in this issue. It was suggested that the
National Museum and the Catboat Club be research sources for information on ships made
by Caymanians.
National Museum 25th Anniversary
A co-opted member confirmed that he had done a walk-through of the National Museum
with the SAC’s Museum Representative and some selections had been made of artefacts
which could be featured in the stamp issue. The Chair requested that photos of the artefacts
they had selected be forwarded to the Philatelic Bureau so the development of this issue
can proceed.
Chamber of Commerce 50th Anniversary
This will be a three stamp issue, and a First Day cover. One stamp will feature the
Chamber’s anniversary logo with the other two stamps portraying “commerce” in the past
and today. The cost of producing this issue is to be shared between the Postal Service and
the Chamber of Commerce.
2
At this time, the Chamber of Commerce is to submit the required photos for the SAC’s
consideration before this issue can be developed further.
Christmas
The submission of drawings by children in the Postal Service’s stamp competition under
the theme of ‘What Christmas Means to Me’ were reviewed by members. Members
selected the drawings which they considered were likely to portray best as stamps. The
selections will be sent to CASCO for conversion to stamp proofs; the final selections and
winners will then be chosen from the stamp proofs. This issue will consist of four stamps, a
First Day Cover, and a Souvenir Sheet.
6.
2016 STAMP PROGRAMME
A brief discussion was held on possible stamp issues for the 2016 stamp programme.
Moths
Drawings are under development.
Agriculture
2016 is declared by the United Nations as International Year of Pulses which is also called
“grain legume”. The Department of Agriculture is to be approached for photos which
could be featured in this issue.
Sunsets
This was suggested as a possible stamp issue.
Christmas
No information to report at this time.
Astronomy
A co-opted member suggested the SAC consider a stamp issue on astronomy. He
indicated that Dr. William Hrudey had an impressive collection of photographs of outer
space taken with the telescope at the University College of the Cayman Islands. The Chair
suggested that the member send some sample photos to SAC members for their review.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd – 50th Anniversary
The Chair advised members that an inquiry had been received from Caribbean Utilities
Company, Ltd. Regarding a commemorative stamp issue for their 50th anniversary and
they are open to funding the cost of the issue. The SAC said yes to development at this
stage.
Stamp Cruise
The Chair informed committee members that she had been made aware that a Stamp Cruise
was planned for 18th – 28th October, 2015 with the visit to Grand Cayman scheduled for
26th October, 2015. After a brief discussion, it was suggested that the Christmas 2015
stamp issue be released on the 26th October to coincide with the cruising philatelists’ visit.
It was also suggested that a display of the winning entries, as well as all the childrens’
artwork submissions from the stamp design competition be set up in the “Old Public
Library” on the same day. In so doing, the visiting philatelists could be a part of the new
stamp issue release.
The meeting adjourned at 2:40 pm.
