March 2017 Newsletter Lakeland REA We would like to thank our members affected by the ATCO outage on Sunday, February 12, 2017. This outage went longer than scheduled and we want to extend a big thank you for your patience. Accidents are Preventable Power Outages Spring time is a great time for yard work and field work and many other outdoor activities. No matter what’s on your agenda, electrical safety should be an important part of your plans. Planned Power Outages: Moving Equipment: Today’s farm equipment can be taller than powerlines. Exercise caution if equipment is higher than 4.1 meters. If your load is in excess of 5.2 meters, contact Lakeland REA office so that we can check the height of the lines along your route, or propose an alternate route for easier travel. Working near Power Lines: When operating equipment near power lines, you must be 7 meters away from the line. Keep this in mind when operating augers and when lifting truck boxes and construction equipment such as back hoes. Call Before You Dig: If you are planning to start a new project this spring or summer, and you need to do any digging like trenching or field draining, please call Alberta 1 Call first. Alberta 1 Call will locate all registered lines before your meter box, your second call should be to 2nd Call. 2nd Call will locate all privately owned Utilities after your meter box. Utility lines are closer to the surface than one thinks. A simple phone call could keep your project under budget. Meet the Office Team Upon receiving notice of a power outage due to routine maintenance or a high load move, it is standard practice for us to contact any Member-owner that may be affected by the outage at least 48 hours prior to the planned power outage. Unplanned Power Outage: If your power goes out and you weren’t given notice: 1. 2. 3. 4. Check your breaker. If your breaker is still in the on position, flip it off and then on again to reset it. If the power does not come on, call 780-632-6112 or toll free 1-866-635-6112. Please be prepared to provide us your name, legal land description and phone number, should we need to get a hold of you for any reason. We will dispatch a Lineman to diagnose and resolve the situation. Safety Tip! If there are any trees in your yard interfering with the powerline in ANY way, please do not attempt to remove them yourself. Please call the office at 780-632-6112 and we will dispatch our Lineman to resolve the issue if it needs immediate attention.
