SMOKE DETECTORS/ALARMS
Most smoke detectors contain a small amount of radioactive material and cannot be accepted at HHW collection
programs. Manufacturer’s must accept them for disposal
as hazardous waste. Homeowners can mail smoke alarms
and detectors back to their manufacturer by surface or
UPS ground mail, labeled “For Disposal”.
ELECTRONICS
Televisions, computers, printers,
scanners, cellular phones, PDAs,
pagers, fax and copy machines,
VCR and DVD players, video games
stations, and stereo systems cannot be placed in the trash.
These items can be taken to some of the HHW Collection
programs listed in this brochure.
Waste Management/G.I. Industries customers of Thousand
Oaks, Moorpark and Simi Valley may call 522-9400 for
options offered by their trash hauler.
Items are also accepted at the below locations for a small

Services
Bring your used needles and lancets
(sharps) to any of the following
locations for proper and convenient
disposal. Free “Biohazard” rigid-plastic
sharps containers are available at the
collection facilities. Call facilities for
collection hours.
Sharps will ONLY be accepted in sharps
containers. No other containers such as coffee
cans, glass containers, milk jugs, soda bottles,
bleach or liquid detergent bottles are accepted.
