PRESS RELEASE
October 1, 2015
National Merit Scholarship Program Honors Huntley High School
Semifinalists and Commended Students
HUNTLEY, IL – Huntley High School principal Scott Rowe has announced that senior Kiera Daly has been
named a Semifinalist and seniors Zachary Swim, Charlie Vavrick, Matthew Cannalte, Kelly Malecki, Brendan
O'Donnell, and Adam Reckamp, have been named Commended Students in the 2016 National Merit
Scholarship Program.
As a Semifinalist, Daly represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors. She now will fulfill several
requirements to advance in the competition in hopes of earning one of about 7,400 National Merit Scholarships
totaling about $32 million that will be offered next spring.
About 1.5 million juniors entered the annual National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2014 Preliminary
SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The Commended Students placed among the top five percent
of those test takers.
Although they will not continue in the 2016 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended
Students will be recognized with a national letter of commendation.
Huntley High staff and District 158 administrators are extremely proud of these students’ accomplishments and
we wish them continued success in their academic endeavors.
