This plan has been complied for discussion purposes only. The Western Australian Government cannot guarantee
the accuracy, currency or completeness of this data.
Map requested by Kieren Massie. Map Produced by Titles Spatial Services, Dept Mines & Petroleum Feb 2012.
DISCLAIMER: The purpose of this map is to illustrate the preferred pipeline corridor only. Some towns and geographic features have been omitted.
115°E
The Western Australian Government
has selected a pipeline corridor for
the Bunbury to Albany Gas Pipeline
that passes through and will service
the towns of Donnybrook, Bridgetown,
Manjimup and Mt Barker.
The pipeline will be constructed to
meet existing demand, with capacity
for further expansion including the
construction of lateral pipelines to other
regional centres and industries.
Benefits
The Bunbury to Albany Gas Pipeline will
enable the delivery of safe and reliable
natural gas to support future economic
and population growth in the Southwest
and Great Southern.
Expanded access to natural gas at
competitive prices will provide an
116°E
117°E
incentive for investment in expanding
existing industries and establishing
new industries and export production in
sectors such as viticulture, agriculture,
mineral processing and timber.
Construction of the pipeline will create
new jobs and increase demand for
services further driving investment in
the region.
Selection of the Pipeline
Proponent
The Government intends that a private
sector business will construct and
operate the pipeline with the State
retaining a share of ownership through
Verve Energy.
Consultation with the pipeline and
energy industry will begin in November
of 2012 by inviting companies suitably
118°E
119°E
qualified to undertake the project, to
register their interest.
After discussions with these companies,
the Government will conduct a
competitive tender process to identify
a proponent to design, construct and
operate the pipeline.
The extent of the Government’s financial
contribution to the project through
Royalties for Regions funding will be
determined as part of the competitive
tender process.
Land Use
The Government has identified an initial
200m wide corridor from Bunbury to
Albany. The corridor provides the basis
for the 50m easement that will be the
final pipeline route.
The final placement of the pipeline will
be determined after negotiation with
potentially affected landholders and
obtaining approvals.
The Government will encourage the
successful proponent to use identified
reserves and easements for the pipeline
where possible and to minimise the
impact on private landholders.
The successful proponent will be
responsible for consulting and
negotiating with landholders and
communities, and for obtaining
relevant environmental, Native Title and
planning approvals.
Land identified for inclusion within the
easement will be managed under the
Dampier to Bunbury Pipeline Act 1997.
It is not intended that land ownership
will change.
A Department of Regional Development
and Lands publication for the Dampier to
Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline entitled Land
Use Guidelines provides an indication of
which activities are likely to be approved
within the easement.
Some of these activities include:
agriculture and farming, cropping and
general vegetation. The publication can
be located at www.rdl.wa.gov.au.
